How to get better at NBA 2k12

Hey guys, been a life long football guy, but I have been getting into basketball more and more over the years. I've always bought 2k, but I always played against friends so I never really knew how terrible I really was until I started playing the computer.

I want to get better but I have the slightest clue how. I'm not good with anything really except getting to the cup. I'm terrible at passing, shooting and especially dribbling. You guys got any pointers that could help me? I went through the Training camp joint and it's helpful but not being able to repeat and with my terrible short term memory, by the time I complete all the drills and it's time for 1 on 1, i've forgotten the moves except probably one or two.

You guys have any suggestions? I wanna get better but I just don't know where to start really. I'll start playing a game it will start off close but at the end of the 1st quarter, beginning of 2nd, they usually just pull away.

Also, defensive tips as well. I remember a couple of years ago I was pretty good at stopping people but the CPU seems to always blow right past me.

    Thanks for your help.

Honestly, your best bet is to just keep playing games. Either that or you can try practice mode and scrimmage.

For me, Practice Mode was the biggest aid in adjusting to new 2Ks over the years. Cause there was never a rush and I could always check the Control List to see how to execute certain moves or just play around to get a better feel for certain types of players.

I often hit Scrimmage Mode when I want to figure out why I've been losing. It helps me pick up certain things I've overlooked and on the defensive side, it's taught me to play defense for a full game and not relax when I have a lead.

Some people play defense differently than others. Like, my friend uses zone on me with every team. And for me, I always play man-to-man. But in my defense, the Small Forward or Point Guard are always the ones that roam to intercept passes and double-team.

But yeah. Hopefully you find something that works for you.

What I do is if I need to work on a shot go to regular practice... Go to settings and change the shot quality and release to ON so I know if I'm releasing right...

As far as working on your dribbling moves vs. a defender, go to Post Up practice... It's 2 vs. 2... You can hold onto the ball as long as you want, trying to do moves to get by your defender... Even take a shot from the perimeter if need be... As said above scrimmage works too... It allows you to figure out your moves in a game situation (and ball hog with a particular player to get the moves/shots down)...

The rest is all just playing and really playing like it's real life basketball... Taking your time, take what the defense gives you, and exploiting your opportunities when you get them...

Work on one part of the game at a time. If you're brand new, shooting takes a while to get used to. There's also defense, free throws, etc... It will take a while, but it's worth it.

And also stick to one team for now. Teams are not really pick & play. You can definately after a while but for now stick to your favourite team. Learn jumpshots, practice post game and plays. Nba 2K can really be overwhelming when you're new to it I definately understand that. It's deep, but the more you play it, the more you'll like it.
