Should have IGN given NBA 2K13 a score higher than 9.1?

Ryan McCaffrey's two negative points on NBA 2K13 were that the game had terrible menus and no tutorials. Little does he know, there ARE tutorials in the game. It's called Practice. Maybe he didn't find it because of the "Terrible Menus," but I doubt it. I think the menus are excellent, considering all the options that are selectable. In addition to the other five practice modes, Training Camp actually teaches how to perform each move step by step. Considering his lack of knowledge, did he give the game a fair rating? Shouldn't it be higher than 9.1?

I have no issue with the score, 9.1 is still very high, but that was a pathetically shallow review.

He says absolutely nothing about the on court improvements, how much better the isomotion is, how improved the AI is, etc. There's very little substance at all, that review could have been written based on the pre game press releases.

Does it really matter if they gave it a 5.0? I mean after all we are talking about IGN...I only listen to people that are here at OS so nothing IGN said can change what I thought about the game.

Who cares? That guy doesn't even know enough about basketball to properly critique the game. The guy didn't really talk about anything terribly important in the review. Lets see, he talked about Justin Bieber, shoe design, Jay-Z, menus, tutorials, and how someone thought he was watching a real game, even though it's September and NBA season doesn't start for a month. Yeah, what an informative review.

IGN's rating system is stupid anyway. What made him give it a 9.1 instead of a 9.3 or a 9?

Agreed. It's like having a car mechanic inspect an airplane. IGN doesn't seem qualified to review sports games.

I've personally never rated a basketball game higher than a 9, so a 9.1 is a fair score.

Tough to say. I don't have the game yet like most of you so it's impossible for me to even rate the game.

But I have to say the reviewer's coverage was really poor. He talked about Justin Biebier being in the game like 5 times. I can see we all have problem with that but he should just mention it once and cover other aspect of the game. He will make a bad editor for sure.

The 9.1 came with an "AMAZING" rating, and after seeing the new features and gameplay enhancements, I'd say "AMAZING" and 9.1 is around right.

Having a person who seemed to have no knowledge of the game, very shallow review I say .9 just for menus and 'no tutorials' seems a bit stupid to say the least. The review was pathetic.

This is how I feel. The fact IGN had this guy do the review was laughable... I would expect a review of this quality for some no name second rate game, not a game at the top of it's genre. Then on top of that it seemed like this guy slapped this review together over his lunch break or something... Like really? Really IGN? Who approved that?

Based on that I give zero credibility to their score on this game.

IGN doesn't deserve this kinda of attention.

Plus what people are saying about them not being qualified to rate a sports game is absolutely true.
That review was so cookie cutter you could substitute him saying 2k13 with 2k12 and you'll have an accurate review. He uses generic journalism buzz words that are often used when referring to a sequel product ie "the gameplay is smoother..."

On a side, who are we? The vast majority of us posting in this very thread DO NOT own 2k13 and are therefore NOT qualified to give an opinion on something we HAVE NOT played.

Aside from IGN being one of the least consistent, highly smug and absolutely commercial "Jurnelizem" sites the only 2k review that matters is your own. Theres way to much 'opinion presented as fact' in game journalism that it kind of pains me to watch people not willing to form their own opinions anymore.

                          TL;DR?
Should have IGN given NBA 2k13 a score higher than 9.1?

Who gives a ....? Its IGN...

Honestly, I thought it was most poorly written review that I have EVER read about a "top notch" game, and I ALWAYS read the reviews of EVERY game that I'm going to or might purchase.

No, they should have given 2K12 lower than a 9.1. 2K12 should have gotten a 8.5-8.9 but with the Legends being on the front cover and a main theme in the game, they over scored it imo.
