Help! 3-point contest a bit sluggish with the controls?

It definitely wasn't like last year..
I like that they have the whole rhythm thing and the AI players are more competitive than all the previous shootout (remember you can get 30 points with shaq last year HA.HA.)
Anyway.. the first few tries i only got like 14 pts and I don't even have time to finish the last row of balls. Then, I tried to shoot faster but I get worse in points and a lot of the time when I press L2 to pick up ball or square to shoot, nothing... I have to press it again.. The whole thing feel very sluggish with the controls..

And Please don't tell me that this is the only angle they let you play when you're playing the game, I'm fine with broadcast when the AI play but there's no view you can change when you play???

Anyone who's mastered the controls for the 3 point contest care to shred some lights on this issues? One more thing, am i supposed to press button or something as soon as I finish a round? the player feel slow walking to another round of balls each time.

Yea I've noticed the sluggishness too. Maybe they can patch this.... Side note: when u say last year, are you referring to a 3 point shootout being on 2k12 or just regular gameplay??? O_o

yes the 3 point shootout on 2k12 sucks.. that's what I was referring to it.

The presentation sure feels better on 2k13 so hopefully they have a patch for this.. I can't help but wonder why they didn't test and fix it before the release it, it wasn't that hard to tell that it feels sluggish.

Re: Help! 3-point contest a bit sluggish with the controls?

The controls do indeed feel sluggish. Just as you described, if I try to initiate the shooting process after picking up the ball, the game often does not respond. In the final round, what I ended up doing was pausing briefly every time I picked up a ball. This way I knew the game would be ready for my shooting input. Still, it did not allow me enough time to finish every rack.

Also, I think you can press "A" after firing the money ball and this will more quickly move you from rack to rack.

Sidenote, at one point during the competition the camera was completely off my player. I had to shoot the middle rack completely blind.

Ok I must be missing something.... I don't remember a 3pt contest on 2k12. Was it part of the Legends DLC? (Forgive me if this is a dumb question)

LOL I think you might be right.. my bad.. I think I confused it with 2k11.

Anyway, could this possibly be the rhythm thing? like when I use Ray Allen and I start putting in 2-3 baskets in a row, my form start to feel more fluid and then if i miss a shot or two, that's when I start to feel the controls being sluggish.

Just tried the 3-point contest again... and YES!!!!
YOU MUST HAVE RHYTHM IN ORDER TO FINISH ALL RACKS!!

Not just rhythm in releasing the ball in the exact same time but more importantly to pick up balls in the exact same time after you release it. If you keep both in check, you will start picking up balls and shooting them off much faster and get into a nice little rhythm which also helps you be more accurate as well!

Hmm.. I'm starting to dig this year 3-point contest!

P.S. Best player for me to use this far, Ray Allen and Manu Ginobili

Anybody else hate this new all-star mode? I'm glad it's in the game, it's a feature they've needed for awhile now, but after playing this one time and not liking it even a little I doubt it's something I ever play again..

The 3 point shoot out is BAD. It's so laggy, the players shot isn't at all on time with when I'm pushing the buttons.. Lots of pauses and lags, ridiculous..

And the dunk contest.. I feel like I'm playing guitar hero then watching the guy do a dunk.. I feel like I'm no part of the actual dunk whatsoever and its not even scored the way a real dunk contest is.. How do they screw that up? NBA live FREAKING 2005 could even get the dunk contest right..

Even though it was difficult, I preferred the old 2K dunk contests where it seemed as though you had more improvisation and control over your dunks.

The 3pt Contest would be straight if it wasn't so laggy.

Why is the rookie game played on the regular Rockets floor and not the ASG floor?

Didn't really check to see if the actual ASG had improved presentation, but it seems the same as it's always been.

You should read post above you oj regarding 3point contest. Have not checked out dunk contest yet. I like the 3 point contest personally.
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

About rhythm? It's hard to get into a rhythm when the player just stands there after I push the shoot button lol.. It's not a big deal anyways, I doubt I ever even play this mode again unless its available in my association and I have a player make it in..

You just about summed it all up. The Dunk Contest has a pretty respectable presentation aspect to it, and that's nice, but the gameplay is virtually non-existent. Would it make sense to enter a guitar hero code while on a fast break, thus deciding what kind of layup a person is planning to shoot (and deciding whether they're going to make it)? I'd venture to say the answer is no. So it doesn't make much more sense to implement it here.

Gamers have absolutely zero control of their dunker, and that is an issue to me. We select from a list of dunks prior to our attempt. Then, we watch our dunker move to the proper spot, begin his approach (without our control), then as he begins to elevate for the jam, we must divert our attention from the cut scene and press a number of buttons together in combination. The buttons themselves have virtually no correlation to what is occurring on screen though sometimes, a half-twirl of the right analog will come into play (amongst many other random button presses) when a 360 is being attempted.

Once the button line is complete, the game returns from slow motion and we watch helplessly as our player runs up to complete (or not complete) his slam. Then comes the arbitrary scoring where one is left on their own to decide whether they were pressing all the buttons correctly, but perhaps too early (or too late), thus resulting in the low score.

As a big fan of the dunk, I find this mode's controls to be a train wreck. Will they be fun to pull off a few times as an "Ah what the hell, let's try this mode" time filler? Sure. Anything beyond that? I'm not too sure.

On the bright side, I really do like its implementation into Association and My Player modes. I might not go out of my way to play it on its own right, but running across the dunk contest and 3pt. shootout once a year during my Association or My Player will be cool, despite the clunkiness and controls issues.

Overall, it'll work as a mid-season diversion, but I wish it had the control and replayability of the NBA Live dunk contest of years gone by.

Yeah, I agree.. I still have no idea why they don't just score it the way the actual dunk contest is scored.. It doesn't make any sense at all.. A panel of judges would be a nice touch as well.. Pretty sure that was even on the old live games.

Yeah I'll agree, I played the dunk contest for about 2 hours yesterday and as far as the scoring goes, the more guitar hero buttons you get correct, the higher the score may be which makes no sense. There was a time I missed a handful of buttons but still nailed the dunk.

It's not a game mode I can just go into by myself to have the replay value, but I think this mode will be super fun if you have a handful of friends come over to the house and play.

I posted in the impression thread about this, you have to pick up the ball and shoot it in all in the same motion. I was able to get 23 points with Chris Mullin by doing this.
