Couldn't get mine to start so I deleted all my saves (fortunately hadn't started my Association yet). Then realized it was due to my internet dropping.

Lesson: Always go to OS first.

Wow, i've been trying to fix this for the past hour or so. I recently lost my internet service b/c of some silly issue and don't have internet. I did NOT think my internet issues would prevent me from even starting up the game! How can 2K not even give a warning or something when trying to start the game? Just a black screen! I thought my PS3 broke or something! Ugh, 2k14 is starting to look like a no-no. Deleted all of my game utility too...no patches and i wont have internet till god knows when...ugh...2k, smh. Thank god for this site and all the knowledgeable people here!

Guys, go to your network settings and briefly disable your network connection. That should at least get the game to run. I had a similar thing happen to me the moment I moved to a new home that didn't have internet hooked up yet. I believe what happens is when you boot the game, it's already configuring your connection to the 2k servers, and if there's a problem with your internet, it will lag the game until the issue is resolved.

Turns out, my connection is having a problem....I reset my router and that fixed the problem...

This happened to me again for the last 2 days and is now working. And I'm not even connected to the internet...

For those who need to "disconnect the internet" to make the game work, rather than doing that, try just logging out of Xbox Live or PSN (depending on your console) before loading the game. That may solve your problem.
