I only play 12 min hof sim online, so I can't speak on quick matches. However, the Pacers are a beast on this game. They play great defense, and have inside and outside scorers. Once you learn the hot spots, and their playbook they are legit.

Once they get Granger back it'll help on offense especially

        @ksutton

I have seen you on here for awhile and I know you use the Pacers all of the time like I do.

Now I don't play quick match much, most of my experience is on 12 min hof simulation sliders. In my current league I am averaging double figures with 7 guys and have beaten the CPU on hall of fame.

I've played 14 games on quick match this year and am 7-7. Most of the games are with the Heat, Thunder, OKC and New York.

I know that the biggest problem is turnovers but they can be limited. In my league association with some pretty tough guys, I averaged the least turnovers on 12 minute quarters in the league after over 40 games played.

        Here's a pic:

Now granted I wasn't playing the elite teams every game but many were.

To cut down on turnovers, when you get a rebound, immediately hit triangle to protect the ball. Don't force the break because that's another area where turnovers are rampant.

You'll notice that when you play certain teams like Boston and other elite teams, passing to wing or from the key into the paint nearly always results in a tipped pass.

I know it's hard, but where these turnovers happen is pretty consistent. Guys driving baseline lose the ball. Hibbert and West can't put it on the floor or it's stolen.

The solution don't do those things.

It's extremely hard not too but it can be done.

The more I use George the better I like him. I've noticed that from the left and right arc, if he is open and not fatigued, he will bury the three.

Now, keep in mind that online, people play everyone tight, good looks are hard to find.

        Keep your guys fresh.

Many times in quick match people adjust for the starting lineup and not the bench. Take advantage of that. Oftentimes, I play better with the bench than I do the starters because people are on auto there.

As far as defense goes, play straight up man to man. I play in the three point area. I don't extend my defense very much. I play mostly on ball.

Making adjustments on defense is a tricky thing. One solution doesn't fit all. Smart players adjust to what you set up.

Is a guy constantly driving the lane, then slowly start increasing your help.

Try and keep good spacing on defense. Two guys near the ball handler usually results in a foul.

On offense, I pretty much concur with the guy above. One thing I like to do with lineups is run Mahinmi and Hibbert at the same time when I need defense. Their defensive awareness is good. Just being in the area helps.

Just keep in mind that on offense, defensive awareness hurts Hibbert. With his back to the basket, he might struggle against a better defender. Get him cutting to the basket.

But again the main thing I run into is that people play everyone tight and they and increase their help which makes it tougher to score.

The elite teams win on defensive awareness alone sometimes. You just have to find the hole in the defense and work on it.

Sometime I find it easier to get a guy to the free throw line, this opens up the offensive a lit bit more. Getting in there too, helps you see whether defense is tight or whether they are locking down the paint or sometimes both.

You've got to recognize that and adjust.

I talk about the Pacers a ton and put videos up about them all of the time. Maybe you have seen some. If not, the link in my signature below. I post all of my box scores over there.

I feel I'm the expert at the Pacers. I am still learning on defense and getting better. My goal is to play them on defense without zoning or hitting double team all of the time and to a large degree I can do that.

Just remember the law of ratings. With two equal players, the guy with the better ratings usually wins. If you aren't winning, it doesn't mean you are worse than that player, they just have the ratings protection you don't so you have to elevate your game.

I find tough too. I'm 45 though, so some I am sure I've lost a step on my controller...lol.

One thing you will want to do if you haven't is study the ratings in depth. This is a tad out of date but will give you the idea of what I am talking about. You've got to know what the guys can and cant do well. Same for your opponent.

I love this chart, and I'm going to try to implement more of your tips. I have noticed that everyone tend to use "Tight" and "Deny Ball" all the time in quick matches. My rotation is pretty much...

Starters until the 2:00 mark in the 1st/3rd quarters...
              Hill - Augustine
              Green - Stephenson
              George - George
              West - Hansbrough
              Hibbert - Mahinmi

At the 3:45 mark in the 2nd/4th quarters
              Augustine - Hill
              Stephenson - Green
George - McQuire (previously it was Young)
              Hansbrough - West
              Mahinmi - Hibbert

I typically bring back George at the 2:00 minute mark of the 2nd and 4th quarters. Right now, I'm currently experimenting with the sliders to see if I can come up with a good mix, and thus far I have won my last three games in a row. It's probably placebo, but I'm going to continue to play with those until I find the "perfect" combination.

Honestly, this should have been a good year for online Pacers users, but I strongly believe that the poor gameplay mechanics/physics and signature skills pretty much nerfed this team. However and from what I've been reading, the Pacers seem to be a better league or 8+ minute quarter team than a quick match team due to their depth. Here's hoping that Granger's return will have a big impact and the 2K Insider doesn't lower his ratings after two weeks.

Not having Granger, who is really the engine of the offense hurts.

George is the "obvious" go to guy, but Ive been extra successful when going to West, instead of shooting many threes or slashing too much.

I tend to play better without Granger.

When I use the play with friends option, I start Stephenson and bring Green in off the bench for offense in the second unit.

West is great in the post.

I've been experimenting with subbing about every 4 to 6 minutes in a 48 minute game and alot of times I will opt for Green over George at certain times at the end of games.

For the most part, I just run two units and don't mix them.

Oh as far as sliders go, I wouldn't adjust those until you see what your opponent is doing. I start with out of the box settings and adjust to my opponent instead of trying to guess what my opponent might do.

I play offline and im in MySeason right now. 12 min quarters.

                      MY Bench:
                      DJ PG
                      O.J. - SG
                      Green - SF
                      Psycho T - PF
                      Mahimi - C

I sub the entire unit at the 5+ Min mark so my starters are fresh for the beginning of every quarter.

I find that without a dominant distributor, that I tend to play way more half court than run n gun. I take advantage of West, Hibbert, Granger and even George's rebounding in a slow down game. Even with the AI gettin way more in the paint points.

I run more w/ the bench since Green can run on the break or shoot the three in transition w/ the ratings he's been given.

Ive tweaked Stephenson who i use as a big PG off the bench depending on my mood and/or what the opposition gives me. He's a better slasher than Hill and DJ. And is actually IMO a better natural passer.

DJ is more disciplined, especially due to his tutelage under Larry Brown who is hard on his point guards. So if I wanna run a more pick n roll slow down game w/ the bench Augustine is whom a go with.

                        Update...

I tried everyone's suggestions, and I can't win in online games consistently with this team. Hell, I just threw my controller at the wall out of frustration for the first time today after losing to a Wizards user who abused the paint for the entire game.

This is going to sound stupid, but this team is TOO balanced for online games. They have good/descent individual ratings, but no "dominating" ratings (JUST found out that Lebron has a 99 INS and 99 LAYUP ratings). Their signature skills basically suck, so this team is NOT going to get many bailout moments either on defense or offense. Their defensive ratings are good, but they're cheapen by the other teams' signature skills or superstars. Even then, the broken blocking mechanics and "ramming" offense makes it impossible to play "effective" or "scary" defense.

Indiana is basically a league team with long minute quarters in which their depth will matter most, or for someone who plays VERY methodically. After experimenting with other teams, I never realized how easy it was for this team to fall behind or lose a lead. Here's to playing slightly above .500 ball until NBA 2K14.

Yeah you don't feel pacers defense in this game . You may feel it offline, custom sliders etc... But in online quick matches you don't feel it. Defense just isn't a big focus for 2k like offense is. Casuals prefer offense over defense.
