Raining threes entire game. can you really beat this cheese?

Say someone pick golden state warriors and use Stephen curry, klay thompson, Jefferson to rain threes the whole game with running around the court, pick and roll.. and subbing Jarrett Jack for some rest to shoot pullup jumpers while jacking up the offensive rebounding to max, can you really stop it? Potentially they will get 2 3 pt attempts per possession because of the rebounding and there'll also be little to no turnover possibility due to no unnecessary passing so they gonna one up you on the final scores no matter how well you play the game scoring 2pts per bucket.

The fact is that in NBA 2k13, you can stop someone from driving to the basket with double teaming, great defense, you can contest most mid-range, but if someone is determine to shoot an uncontested 3, with enough screens and pick and roll and passing and running, he'll get an open shot for it because the 3 point perimeters are just too wide to guard for any team and you can try double teaming, but that'll just leave another 3 point shooter wide open. So there's really no way to stop someone from just raining threes the whole game just for the heck of it.

Honestly, your opponent is really beating you with the volume of 3 point shots. You can defend the shot to a point, however if they hit 20 shots out of 50 attempts that's still a lot of points to overcome on 5 minutes quarters. Especially, if you yourself don't jack up a lot of 3PT attempt to compete.

That's another reason why I stopped playing online...again. It's always something with online games.

Can it be stopped? Not really. Can you beat it? Absolutely.

It's totally true that volume shooting threes is a viable tactic in the game, and that especially goes for teams that are built to play that style, which Golden State is.

If a user picks Golden State and knows how to get open shots, knows his releases, and knows how to play defense, he's going to win a lot -- and he SHOULD win a lot.

The three-point volume shooting + jacked up offensive rebounding is a very strong combination and some of the toughest players I've played against use it as their go-to strategy.

      But it can be beaten.

It has two weaknesses which you must exploit to win:

      1. Predictability. If your opponent is a volume three-point shooter then you pretty much know where he's going to be shooting from most of the time. Yes, the three-point line wraps all around the court but it's still a pretty small area compared with the totality of the basketball court.

Your job as the user is to manually contest as many of those shots as possible -- don't leave it up to your AI defenders. Get manually switched onto the primary defender before the shot and get a contest. If he isn't keeping you honest by putting the ball on the floor when you close out, don't be afraid to do a strong contest with the triangle button.

And if he's using a lot of off-ball screens and movement to create open shots, don't sit there staring slack-jawed at the screen being the "100 percent on-ball" guy. Switch to a help defender that can disrupt the play. If you disrupt the play even just once or twice, you can take people out of their rhythm and/or switch the game momentum.

      2. Fast break points.

Teams that use the "chuck and board" strategy almost universally suck at defense, and especially fast break defense. Part of it is inherent to their playstyle -- a lot of the time people who go all-in on getting offensive rebounds are doing so because they're afraid of or bad at playing defense.

But it's also their sliders. When they jack up that rebounding slider they are giving you fast break opportunities every time they don't get the board. If you want to win, you will take advantage of those opportunities.

If you try to walk the ball up the court, take 10 seconds to set up plays and slow things down, you are giving up the advantage that your opponent is giving you. Against those teams your ideal goal should be to score in transition off EVERY missed basket. Secure the rebound and don't fool around, push it up the court. Watch for where your wings are before the shot goes up so that you know what the best option for an outlet pass will be. Be merciless in throwing the ball ahead of the defense (L1 + R1) when it is safe to do so, i.e. you have good separation and a good passing angle, and be aggressive in taking the ball to the hole.

If the initial break isn't there, look for secondary break chances -- that means finding mismatches created in transition and going at them HARD. Post up bigs against smalls; with smalls against bigs either shoot it when they sag or drive right at them if they don't. When you see an open shot, don't hesitate. Don't waste time and let the defense get set.

If you do this correctly, you will be getting dunks, layups, and and-ones consistently. That will get momentum on your side, especially at home. When the crowd gets pumped up, that brings down his 3-pt shooting percentage dramatically, and it will negate his offensive rebounding too, since that also depends greatly on momentum.

      ----

Execute in these two areas and assuming you are of a overall similar skill level, you will win, and your opponent will think you cheesed him.

Re: Raining threes entire game. can you really beat this cheese?

It can't really be stopped especially with Stephen Curry and the Warriors, because all he needs is a little space and he will drain 3's all game. Even if you play good D, all your opponent has to do is create a little shooting space either by setting screens, driving to the hole and running back to the 3 point line to create space for a shot, run around the 3 point perimeter til they get a little space, or drive and do a step back move to create space and it goes in 80 percent of the time.
The only thing you can do is get a good team like the Spurs and hope your opponents defense is garbage and try to win in a shoot out which is the case a lot of the time.
I don't mind open 3's going in, but I can't stand it when contested 3's and bad 3 point shots go in as often as they do online in this game.

Faced a dude that used GSW and shot 70% from the 3pt line going into the 3rd quarter in a quick online match. I played the same defense the whole game and I knew Curry and Klay would get cold eventually due to their weird shot releases. By the 4th quarter, it was over for my opponent. Curry does not have deadeye or closer sig, so he will get inconsistent after missing a couple of 3s.

To KEEP UP with your opponent's 3 ball in the first half, just take advantage of his missed shots. Fast breaks is your best friend. Do not double players unless you know how to play zone defense really well or else you'll be giving your opponent wide open looks.

2k needs to add "gather " animations like they had in 2k11. In 2k13 everyone goes from doing 5 iso moves to taking a accurate jumpshot in 1 second

1 3 1 zone and control your PF. I really hate off ball D, but this strategy has become effective for 3 point cheese heads.

agreed. One of the biggest advantages given to the offense in this game is the gather animations. It makes jumpshooting unrealistic, but it also makes the put backs on offensive rebounds a huge problem. The shawn marion put back animations, and superspeed pull up j's need to be corrected.

This man has the right idea. Most people that play that 3 happy style neglect the paint. So I'll roam with an athletic 4 to whichever corner they have a player set up on. I also anticipate which player they are trying to set up and play just enough off of them that they look open. Then either jump the passing lane or get close enough to contest the three.

I forced a guy in our OA into 5-21 shooting from three with Steph. He wasn't smart enough to adjust.

Trust me GSW is my team. I have played games where Curry goes 2-11 and Klay go for 1-9. They can be stopped. You have to play tight aggressive D to start. Once the Splash Bros. start splashin', its over.
You cant let Curry get hot early. Once he does, heat retention stays on ALL GAME.

what i do is i spread the floor to defend there three point shooters, then i put a hand up in there face and hope they miss. the thing with people who do this is, they usually don't do anything else on offense, so when the d goes to contest the three point shooters, the user tends to neglect the wide open driving lanes that theyve created by spreading the floor.

I beat teams like gsw or nyk using teams like miami, brooklyn, or even okc or the clippers. the advantage to using these teams is they play good defense, and have decent sized defenders in the low post to rebound there misses, there guys are athletic enough to win in fast break situations(which are key), and i can spread the floor with these teams as well because of there decent amount of 3pt shooters. Another bonus is that i can go big or small with these teams, so i can use three point shooters from the 1-4 spots and use a big 5 to grab boards.

A good team to beat gsw is new york though, why? because that whole team with the exception of tyson chandler and kenyon martin can shoot 3s. so you can fill the 1-4 spot with 3pt shooters and own your opponent on the boards with chandler. plus if your opponent does decide to drive, he'll have a 7'1 center waiting for the contest

One thing to remember though is to take advantage of when curry and thompson get tired or are on the bench, at that time, strike with your full wrath! OH and try to get bogut and lee in foul trouble, and make sure most of your points come in the paint.
