The idea hit me when I saw previews for the PS4's Blacklight: Retribution and Warframe titles. They look like top shelf games, yet they're free to play. The producer of Blacklight clearly took a shot at annualized FPS games, stating that consumers would have to purchase a new game for new maps, gameplay features, and weapons, while his team can patch it into the game they released on day one.
I only play 2 game modes; online (with my buddies) and practice. This has been the trend for me since NBA 2K1 on the Dreamcast via SegaNet.
Why can't 2K indefinitely patch in roster updates, playbook changes, and other aesthetic features? Or could we pay for the game modes that we want? I believe Sony sells Killzone's multiplayer component independently on the marketplace.
I'm not saying that Take Two, or 2K sports should hop on the suggestion. I'm not entirely familiar with F2P games or how the business model works for something like this. Couldn't this work for NBA 2K? I think it would be a huge win for gamers imo. Just having more choices never hurts.
