How do you run your association?

Just curious on how some of you guys run your association to make it fun and long lasting.

I want to know if you sim all games and play a general manager role or do you actually play the games. I'm still trying to figure out a way to actually enjoy an association that's long lasting. If I'm doing a rebuild season(currently suns on 2k14) I'm simming the first season while doing small trades so I can play some games during the second season. Usually I play about 10 games a season and sim. But with this, after 3 seasons I usually start over.

How should I enjoy an actual long term association?

Play important and rival games. Sim the rest.

Player lock your favorite player. Play shorter quarters and more games. Play less games and longer quarters. Only use players that you have never used before. Other then that the mode gets boring fast.

I play one game per week and sim the rest. That way you get to play some games but have to manage the team to your own liking when players are injured. I did this for the first time in 2k13 and it really keeps you interested.

I also only played every other game in the playoffs. I would flip a coin before each round and heads I would play the even games and tails I would play the odd games. This way you can't win every game in the playoffs and you may have to play important games which keeps it fun.

I play every minute of every game. I can understand simming if you wanna finish a bunch of seasons, and don't have all that much time, but I'd rather play every game of 1-3 seasons, then sim 50-80% of the games and getting through 6-10 seasons.

          But that's just me.

Re: How do you run your association?

Usually, I spend the first year completely simming the season. I intentionally pick a bottom five team that has at least a bit of cap space and a few promising prospects. Then, I spend the season making a few trades (but I try to stop myself from doing a complete roster overhaul, making it as realistic as possible) to shed salary cap space and acquire future picks.

Then, I usually go into the draft with at least two or three first-round picks. I use one pick to draft a top five rookie, and either I use the other picks to draft more rookies or I package a couple of mid or late first-rounders together on draft night to trade for a veteran.

I enter free agency with plenty of cap money, usually enough to sign at least one player to a contract of $9 million annually or more. Plus, I have my MLE.

From there, I spend the next few seasons playing 15-20 games at most (rival and key games) in 82-game seasons, plus I play the playoffs. By picking a terrible team the first year, I usually have a low playoff seed in the second season and a championship contender by the third.

Ive decided i wanna play every game so i do 14 games with 8 min quarters...6 min feels too short to me and this allows for foul troubles and more interesting strategies

I've been doing this lately with sports games. Is so much fun and satisfying; I did it in MLB 13 the show and got through the second season recently. All you have to do is play two games every day. When you want to play something else or can't/don't feel like playing try to make up the games later.

Play one, sim 2, play another, sim 3. then back to 2, then 3. Alternating helps me get through the 82 game seasns.

Also makes you manage teams based on what the simulated version of your team is doing, so not just your skill dictates success, although playoffs I play all, so skill is crucial for sure.

Fantasy draft seasons are always 29 games long.

To make it a bit more interesting I sometimes create my MyPlayer and put him on my team in association so that I can kind of run his career at a faster pace than in the MyCareer mode. I've found that I end up enjoying it a bit more because even if I player lock him, the AI seems smarter (could totally be a placebo effect though). If you don't mind missing out on the post-game interviews or any of the social media stuff then it's a quicker way to build up a player and take him through multiple seasons while also controlling the direction of the team, kind of playing two roles at once I guess.

I only play about two games a month and go really in depth with the GM side and setting sim strategies and everything. I still never manage to get through 3 seasons this way though.

I will only play 12 minute qtrs, 82 game schedule an play every game. I also always use my favorite team the Pacers. I also use 30 team control and follow real life transactions for the 1st season, then after that I will let it play out however it may be, other than I wont let anything unrealstic happen like a superstar going to the Cavs, Bucks, T-Wolves, or any small market team where a star would go play as a FA. I also will only make trades that I think the Pacers would actually do IRL, so that means no signing of a superstar in his prime yrs either.
The past few years because of Associaiton being glitched I havent been able to get thru a entire season, but I am hoping to this yr as long as its not messed up to bad. I almost did last yr with Beds roster then I realized the records were glitched and lost interest in it and went back to playing MLBTS.

I always do an 82 game season and play each team once on their home court then sim the rest. I play every playoff game if I make it there.
