Re: Missing A+ shots?
Re: Missing A+ shots?
Here we go again. This topic has started some HEATED debates in the past month or so on these boards. I can offer my opinion, but i'm sure you'll disagree with me.
I really wish 2K didn't have the shot feedback system, or at least make it so it doesn't tell the player they have a "perfect release" When guys see perfect release, they think that means the shot should drop every single time.
Guys can shoot, and shoot the ball the same way every time, perfect to their form, but it doesn't, and shouldn't mean that the shot should go in every single time. Just my opinion and the opinion of other guys on here, but there's also guys who stick by the fact that A+ release means it should always go in..
I'm sure this thread will get out of hand again, so get ready for the ride. -

Not everyone that you think is a good perimeter shooter really is, I mean at least from everywhere on the court. Cold spots and ratings matter more.Comment

Re: Missing A+ shots?
But your talking about 2 different things: I agree with the 'perfection of the release' part, but the other one is the 'quality of the shot', taking into account all the factors (the impact of the defense, the place and the player shooting and even the release) so I agree it seems a little bit inconsistent...Ignorance is Bliss...Comment

Re: Missing A+ shots?
Re: Missing A+ shots?
Explanation:
Each shot taken is determined by an equation. That equation has weighted factors that determine a success range. Your shot release is one of those factors and is weighted a little heavier than other factors. Another heavily weighted factor is player consistency. The lower the player's consistency the more likely he will miss shots you think he should otherwise make.
Finally, after that success range is determined, the roll of the dice may still yield a number outside of the determined success range which still could mean a miss even though that failure % is small. It happens but we have a tendency only to notice the times we miss shots we think we should have made. I challenge you to pay more attention to the shots you make that read as bad shots and see if they even out.
There is your answer. These are my opinions based off of my perspective. I don't expect everyone to agree with me, but if you disagree, we can still agree to disagree agreeably and not fight about it.Comment

Re: Missing A+ shots?
Too many contested shots go in and open shots miss. In my observations, the game seems programed for players to shoot around 40%, regardless of shot skill level, signature skills or wether you are open or contested. At least in the my career game, player shot development by gaining and spending VC means nothing.Comment

Re: Missing A+ shots?
^^ Yep. Concepts added more randomness to the shooting. There is more luck. Good and bad and the difference between great shooters and nonshooters has narrowed.
I see this as a good thing. Its less likely for someone to spam elite three point shooters all game. I had someone fall below 10 and try to come back by chucking with Durant. Only made things worse for him. On the flip side we are more likely to be rewarded by shooting a wide open three with someone who is rated 75 so even though there is more randomness and luck the reward for taking open shots is actually greater than it was before.
Also half decent shooting bigs never missed those 15 foot corner shots in 2k10-13. That shot was so money it felt like a glitch. Now its just a good shot and it will miss.Comment

For whatever it's worth, I'm a 6'7 scoring SG for the T'Wolves, 90 3, 90 mid, Deadeye level 1, catch and shoot level 1 , consistency I think 84 and my 3pt avg at the moment is .414 or something and I average 38+ppg and Rubio (when he's healthy) averages 13+ assists per game, mostly off my shots.YouTube/PSN: FARKALICIOUS

Re: Missing A+ shots?
so basically the user has no control over the outcome, shooting is a crapshoot dependent on what the videogame basketball gods has decided your shot's fate is, and working the ball around and running plays to get open looks means you're wasting your time. awesome.Comment

That's not what was said at all. Stop putting words in people's mouths.
He said there were a number of factors....most of them you can control. Capisce?XBL: Blaza RepComment

Re: Missing A+ shots?
Re: Missing A+ shots?
i hear ya op, i feel the same way. shooting is too random. i have consistently inconsistent results in my career. i have a 6'8" sf, 90 3pt, 99 consistency. ive had multiple games where i will get on fire by taking easy, close-range shots (layups, short-mid range jumpers), but still brick 3 after 3. and these are wide open, uncontested, standing still, catch, wait a second to make sure im ready before i shoot 3s.
but then i go back on defense and guys will jack up a 3 at the last second of the shot clock after dribbling around through a doubleteam and it will drop.
they need to fix it. i dont expect every open shot to fall because its not realistic but i shouldnt go 1-8 from 3 with a 90 rating and 99 consistency unless im taking bad shots. same game i went 1-8 from deep i was 9-21 overall.Comment

Re: Missing A+ shots?
A related topic, but it seems to me that catch and shoot does not work in NBA2K14. I always equip this special abiltiy for my shooters (level 3), but have yet to see it activate, wereas my other abilities (microwave, heat retention, dead eye and the gatorade thing) all give a visible indication when they are in play. In testing, it seems I shoot the same with catch and shoot equiped or not.
No catch and shoot could also be a factor in our dubious view of player shooting. Has anyone had experience with this ability activating during shooting?Comment

Catch and shoot works for me using the Trail Blazers on the PC. I get it when ever I catch and shoot with Batum, Matthews and Lillard. Batum and Matthews have some cold spots from med range so an A+ still isnt a great shot from certain locations with them.A related topic, but it seems to me that catch and shoot does not work in NBA2K14.
