Comparing MyPlayer Difficulty: 2k14 vs. 2k11

This is the difference just a few years makes in MyPlayer. Both were done using All-Star/Sim with 12 minute quarters. PG 3pt Specialist.

2k14: Started Rookie Showcase and just intentionally fouled out with a stat line of 0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0. I was drafted late 1st round by the Knicks. Was a 73 ovr, after actually playing drills, and after 5 games of intentionally fouling out as soon as possible, I was notified I was 'On Jordan Brand's radar because of my recent games performance.'

2k11: Averaged 16pts, 6ast, 2reb through 3 games of the Draft combine, got drafted early in the 2nd round to the Trailblazers. Averaged 13pts, 4 ast, 1.5reb in 5 Summer League games...and was cut.

Hey man, all your talking about how good NBA 2K11 is has intrigued me, can you tell me about the game, and some of its features. I mean, I can get it for twenty bucks, so if it would be worth it cool! Can you please describe it for me? Thanks!

It was so much better before. With the current "become a dominant player 12 games into your career" the mode gets insanely old, insanely fast.

There should at least be an option for those who'd prefer a more challenging journey.

Keep in mind there's no online and maybe no patches (not sure). And 2k11 was unplayable before the patches, a lot of freezing in mycareer to the point where you had to start over. Centers shooting threes. That's all i remember, but there was more.

Could I just find patches online? Plus, I'll get it on Steam so it will be legit

You can still get the patches, I have been playing it all weekend and am happy with everything I am seeing.

In my opinion 2k11 MyPlayer gives you the closest thing to a sports RPG as you will find. You have to level up, you have to gain XP, you have to execute or you won't play. If you don't have the skill in a certain area...you straight up can't do it. Big men with low dribbling, ball security ratings fumble the ball trying to move. I'm seeing air balls and AWFUL shots.

Very dynamic and challenging, for me, keeps me immersed so much more than 2k14.

All opinionated, obviously, but for $5 used at Game Stop, this game can't be beat.

-My advice for MyPlayer in 2k11 is get ready to work. You pretty much have to play on 12 minute quarters in order to be able to get numbers and XP in the three Draft Combine games. There aren't any sub in these games, so you will have to try and put up insane numbers and grind through the 2.4 hours of gameplay before you ever get drafted.

The numbers in these games matter. My PF averaged 19 pts, 20.5 reb, 4 ast in the 3 games and went 21st to the Thunder. In other words, those are ridiculous numbers, and it only earned me a late 1st round pick. More the better.

-Your player is going to start out around a 40 OVR to start, so be ready to be awful. You might not be able to make shots, or dribble freely. It is hard and when you start your player will be really bad.

-As far as drills are concerned, find the one where you can get gold every time. When you get gold in the drill you get the XP, and an attribute boost, depending on what drill you do. Also make sure you level up your players attributes before every game so you can try and dominate for XP.

-Height and weight are tied together and effect how your player moves and progresses. I started my PF at 6'11 225 and he was slow and clumsy. I lowered weight down to 185 and it automatically adjusted my height to 6'8. At first when I saw this I wasn't stoked, but seeing how it effected my player in game, made me stoked again. He was lighter, faster, and more responsive. It made the world of difference and instantly started doing better.

That is all I have off the top of my head, if I think of anything else I will def post it for you.

Also, if you are getting the PC version google search for the MODs. I have always been envious of the PC users because of the rosters and graphic mods that make it look amazing.

Thought I was the only one who missed the rigor of 2k11. I mean having to actually ball out to make the team was a fantastic idea and I hate they went away from that. I would love to see the D-League back in 2k15 and having to fight for your spot on the team!!!!!!!!!!

Yea man, no shortcuts with this game. Even on Pro/Default.

I don;t think people can handle actually playing a game that intensely just to be able to think about competing. MMO and RPG players grind out hours upon hours to try and get to high levels, but it seems like the majority of sport gamers just want to be a 99 OVR instantly, so they cater to that.

I didn't delve too far into MyPlayer in 2k11, but from what I do remember it was definitely a challenge. It took time and effort to develop your player, no matter how your stats looked. It would really rekindle my interest in MyPlayer next year if they made it like that again. In the past few years, it's gotten way too easy to become a star and that really killed it for me.

2k11 MyPlayer was the best one. I miss starting out at a low overall and being drafted in the 2nd round and what not. The Summer circuit games were fun, I don't know why they took them out. Fighting for a roster spot is what made those games so fun imo. However, 2k11's was so damn frustrating as well. The teammate ai was terrible and they would brick all their shots 24/7. I remember being on the blazers and watching brandon roy chuck step back 3's or get his sh*t blocked when he tried to drive to the hoop. It was so bad that I had to score 35+ pts on a daily basis just to hang around in a game.

Yea I am seeing some bad AI here and there, but nothing worse than I was seeing in 2k14. In these single player modes, no matter the sport or game, you are going to have to deal with some bad AI.

Everyone asks why they took all this stuff out of later years, and I think it was due to space on the disc.

2k11 has hardly any classic teams, no creating a legend, and a limited number of shoes, accessories, and sig shots. With that extra memory they were able to put in the D-League and an extensive MyPlayer mode.

In 2k12 they added a ton more classic teams, more sig shots, shoes, and accessories, as well as added Creating A Legend. Took out Jordan mode and added the extensive Legends Challenge with all the unique presentations.

2k13 gave us MyTeam and took out the classic team challenges, as well as adding tons more shoes, sig shots.

And now 2k14 took out C.A.L. and replaced it with LeBron mode, blacktop came back and shoe editor got an overhaul. MyTeam got an upgrade and once again more accessories and shoes.

It was like 2k11 was the base of core gameplay but with limited options to editing players and such, utilizing all the memory on the disc available. Then, year after year adding more stuff onto the game ment taking some stuff off slowly. Hopefull this year failure with NG 2k14 was just a game to get the NG visuals down, so now with 2k15 they can utilize all that Blu-Ray disc space and bring back EVERYTHING from the past 5 years, combine it all with the amazing visuals, and we will have the ultimate NBA game.

                              Just a thought.
