I just got it for 20$ on steam because of the mods, I also have it on ps3, but I can't even play because of the choppyness. I can play BF3 on medium/high settings. on the benchmark test it runs at around 50 fps but still it gets choppy every 5 seconds.
My specs:
Intel Core i7-2617M 1.5 GHz (2.6GHz Turbo Mode, 4MB Cache)
NVIDIA GeForce GT540 1.0GB Memory
6GB DDR3 at 1333 MHz RAM

There many more PC centric users over at the nba-live.com forums. I'd ask over there. The mods are very friendly.

the PC community here at OS is pretty small in comparison.

Good luck! I would be proper upset if i had that rig and a puny game like 2k12 wouldn't run at 30+fps

NBA 2k for the pc is probably the worst optimized game I've ever played. The framerate on my desktop computer is really poor as well. But I can play fifa 13, pes 13, and a lot of new games with MAX settings and everything goes smooth as butter.
Why can't I even play 2k11?

Ever tried to play ARMA 2? talk about horrible optimization. Fingers crossed for DayZ standalone and ARMA 3. Dying to try them out.

Is the drop in FPS present in the main menu where you can see the two players at the top, or is it only during gameplay?

If it is during gameplay, is it present 100% of the time?

are you on 2k camera?

Make sure your video card is updated with the correct drivers.\
Search for window updates.

Also, try the 2k fourms.

I had the same problem, specially with 2k11. My laptop far exceeded regular specs and it had weird hitches all over the place that had nothing to do with the frame rate. My frame rate was well over 60 and the game still played glitchy. Never found the correct answer/solution to it. I think it has to do with the processor more so than the graphics card.
