Are there variations to nba live playbooks?

When I view the plays for the bulls, all I see are 8 plays. There is a variation option, but when I press it, there aren't any variations available. Are there any variations to any plays for any of the team?

Also does anyone remember the article here at OS that stated that the lakers had over 900 plays? Are there really over 900 plays or something for the lakers?

yes there are but only for certain plays : like when the 4 other players are aligned near the free throw line (these plays are called "1-4 high ...sthg")
I think you exagerate a bit when you say that there were 900 hundred plays, only for the lakers :

Well you can start any play from either side of the court (which changes who's involved in the play in certain cases) plus initiate a play with any player. So in Live it gives you 8 sets and 4 quick hitters in the default playbook, we'll throw out the 4 quickes since there are no variations to them (or it's random variation, like how/where a guy moves on the Off Ball Screen) and focus on the 8 sets. So think of those as sets and not just singular plays.

We'll take Angle Roller for the Knicks, a pick n pop play starting on the wing. Whoever has the ball in their hands on the wing when the play is called will be the man getting the pick from my big guy. Default it's for my PG but I will pass the ball to Chandler or Gallinari, then call Angle Roller and now it's a pick n pop play with them instead of my PG. (Off topic but it's huge to do this instead of just holding B/circle for a screen because the floor spacing is waaaaaaaay better. You'll get into the paint way more often if you run a play that includes a pick-n-roll because your teammates will never clog the lane.)

Each side of the court = x2, each player starting the play x5. So technically on those two little pages you see of the 8-set play calling screen you potentially have 80 plays in some instances. Pretty crazy. But again I'm not sure you can start every single play with all five guys, some times if you try to initiate a play while your C has the ball at the top of the key the first step in the play will to be pass to your PG so he can initiate the play.

Plus mid-game you can go into team management < playbooks and can change who the play is mainly for. Back to Angle Roller on the Knicks, default the play is for David Lee to be the screener. I obviously don't want DLee popping to the 3-pt line so I switch that play to be for Harrington or Danilo if he's in at the four. You can changes this over and over again throughout the course of the game but it's obviously not an on-the-fly variation.

Also, you do not have to run the play by script every time. Based on the defense other options will open up and your players will flow accordingly.

Is there a way you can decide which side of the floor your play is run?? Or is it random??

Seems like it normally starts on the side that you're standing... I don't notice every time I run a play, but thinking about it, it seems as if that's the rule.
