The lure of Jordan being in a game for the first time in years plus all of the additions in 2K11 did it. Jordan in the game is bringing back guys who haven't played video games in a while. People who don't even play sports games anymore. Guys like my 30+ year old friends who--like me-- remember watching Jordan and instantly pre ordered the game. 2K pulled out the big guns. They are on the top now..no where to go but down. It will be interesting to see how the community handles having only one dog in the race. Game changer--they beat the bullys cross eyed cousin. Now I'm sure with losing this money MORE HEADS are going to focus on NBA LIVE/ELITE. It will be interesting.

This is awful if people lose their jobs over this. We'll never know who it is, but you know a major company like this will need a scapegoat or five or ten. Suits who proposed the idea to overhaul Live into Elite might be the ones in trouble.

First off Pachter is an idiot.

Duyuhhhhh lets see… 1.1 mil copies X $59.99 = $60 mil in lost revenues. Oops. Looks like someone forgot that retailers actually have to make a profit. Please don’t ever post another quote from this guy.

2nd no way this game sells a million copies. I hope he wasn’t quoting the EA sales forecast because obviously they had no clue what was going on.

I think he was factoring in the fact that they will have to pay a fine because of the NBA License stuff. Since they will fail to release a game within a certian time frame I think they will have to pay a fine or something.

Won't EA make the money up selling NBA Jam anyway? I think most people who want to buy Elite 11 were more after Jam than Elite. Now that Jam is selling on its own, more people will go ahead and buy.

the funny thing is people think this will phase EA.
EA makes so money every year. although their profits are lower than last year, they are NEVER in the red. they say we took a loss this year to confuse idiots into thinking they aren't making money but what they really mean is we made less money than we did last year. In the end it was EA who decided to delay the game not the developers so they already knew what was going to happen. i can see somebody getting fired but don't for a second think this will hurt EA in any way.

Come on man, at least do some research before you post.

NEVER in the red? Ok... EA Loses Over $1 Billion in FY 2009

And why would they say they took a loss to "confuse idiots into thinking they aren't making money?" That doesn't even make sense. Yeah, let's convince people we aren't making money. Great idea.
