Inbounds and Backcourt

LIVE '04 has taught me something.

NBA.com

RULE NO. 8-OUT-OF-BOUNDS AND THROW-IN
-Section III-The Throw-In
-e. Any ball out-of-bounds in a team's frontcourt or at the midcourt line cannot be passed into the backcourt. On all backcourt and midcourt violations, the ball shall be awarded to the opposing team at the midcourt line, and must be passed into the frontcourt.
EXCEPTION: During the last two minutes of the fourth period and/or any overtime period, the ball may be passed anywhere (frontcourt or backcourt) on the court.

Just a post for anyone else like me that didn't know the rule, and was used to passing behind the half court line and getting no calls (don't know what game or when, but I have, maybe it is always after the two minute mark in the 4th). If this is happening to you, the GAME IS RIGHT. It just doesn't feel right, has this ALWAYS been the rule? In high school we use to do it all time (inbound from the midcourt and pass it backcourt).

Re: Inbounds and Backcourt

I thought this rule changed last season to allow passes into the backcourt. It changed at the same time as the 8 second backcourt rule.
