Play this game with Baseline camera!

Consider me enlightened! I always played my basketball games from the Espn or broadcast angles because they were the default angles and that's the view we see on TV. Anyhow, I've always envied those who could play the games effectively with the baseline type cameras because IMO it looked better, more fluid and more engaging! I tried these views once maybe 10 years ago and I just couldn't do it! The other day I finally gave baseline high camera a try for the heck of it and I ended up playing the game with this view for several hours. I was shocked!

Listen, as we all know, this game has some issues that have been well documented here, my input included. However, graphics is CLEARLY not on that list! Honestly I scratch my head furiously anytime someone says the other game looks better. In some ways the other game disappointed me in that category this year plain and simple! Suffice to say that It took away from the immersion factor. In fact, the previous installment of that game looked better for the most part although i give them credit for improving the player models this year. However, IMO, Live 15 is the best looking bball game out right now and here's where the camera views come into play.

The game looked nice with Espn/broadcast cam, however due to the fact that more frames are being rendered in this view due to the wider angle of the environment, I consistently experienced inconsistent frame rate issues that affected my enjoyment of the game. Switching to baseline high was akin to undergoing lasik surgery and regaining excellent vision! I could see the court better, better view of angles, smoother gameplay, player models look much better, more substantial, etc. You can feel the better fluidity of the game in this mode. This has translated to an even better challenge from the Cpu.

The only problem with Baseline high is lack of zooming in the paint. This makes playing paint defense almost impossible and on the offensive end you sometimes have to guess on timing and what moves to execute since the camera is far away.

So, I tried Baseline low and bam! Athough not perfect, this game really shines from this view! I urge you all to try this or the baseline high angles! In Baseline low cam, the game is even more fluid and engaging and you can truly appreciate the fantastic atmosphere, detailed courts (complete with scuff marks), player models (players feel like they have weight in this mode) , spacing , vastly better paint view allowing for better paint offense/defense, clearer passing lanes, cutting angles, stealing angles, animations, etc! I am truly having a good time and logging serious hours due to this simple change alone!

If you want to use Baseline low I STRONGLY suggest that you try Baseline high first and master how the game plays from that view. When you feel comfortable, then switch to Baseline low. You must have an open mind if you are coming from a "left to right" or "east to west" type view. It takes some adjustment to adapt but it is absolutely worth the effort!

Try this if you haven't and let us know your thoughts!

Look in the impressions thread because I've been saying this!!!!

Switched over to baseline low in live 14 and it enhanced my joy for the game so I stuck with it this year.

Boggles the mind that ppl still say this looks like a ps3 game and the graphics aren'tgood.

      Smart man

You're right, the graphics, when viewed in this angle especially, it shouldn't even be up for debate! This game is gorgeous! I hope others give this view a try like we have!

Not sure about all the supposed gameplay enhancements as a result of changing the camera angle, but the game really does shine on this camera angle. If not for the wonky way it flips on possession changes I would use it. It's too shaky for me as it stands right now.

Been playing on baseline low with camera rotation for a couple of weeks now. I just feel more comfortable with my directional controls

Yes, it takes some time to adjust to the possession flip but i hardly notice now. In fact, if you chose, you can lock the camera and prevent this flip on possession change. That is an option.

In regards to gameplay, I certainly won't call them enhancements. It's more a realization of how the game was designed to be played. I do believe that the closer " on court" view allows for more fluid and consistent frame rates thereby Improved gameplay from both human and cpu perspectives. For example, I am able to cut off cpu penetration more effectively forcing the cpu to pass more and take jump shots more freqently. Its almost as if the games logic engine kicks in during these sequences. If you don't impede the cpu's progress or momentum in the lane it will simply continue to abuse the " path of least resistance" and not explore other or more desirable options. Just my observation.

Also, to provide further detail, I play the game with global coaching defensive on ball settings - Tight, off ball - autol. Post play - behind, force direction - normal, Offense strategy - push tempo.

This camera view has made me appreciate the game even more no question!! Now, let's address areas of deficiency then we can truly brag about the game! I have faith that a patch or patches will bring this vision to fruition.

Man I've been saying this since I started playing this game!!! Baseline high is good but baseline low is everything!

A tip I can suggest is to turn camera rotation ( whatever it's called) off. the camera does not turn which can hinder fastbreaks. And its cool because you're seeing defense how you would see it in real life, with the offense coming at you. After trying all the cameras I settled on this and have been using it for a month now!

Re: Play this game with Baseline camera!

Baseline camera is a band aid to a solution that's still internally bleeding.....
the game desperately needs not just more camera options, but customization camera options with zoom, height, etc...

The only possible reason they wouldn't include this is most likely because they were having framerate issues.... which I find mind blowing that they couldn't manage to get this game to run at a constant 60fps, that's just friggin ridiculous (Live 14 last year dropped down and played at 30fps on baseline low if I remember correctly)

I still see some rare framerate drops once in a while with Live 15, so I'm pretty sure that's the reason they only included a limited set of camera options....
I just can't believe at their incompetence of not being able to have this game run at a smooth 60fps on these next gen consoles, I would understand if the game was graphically intense or something along those lines but it's a damn sports title, you have to be an idiot not to be able to optimize it for 60fps

Re: Play this game with Baseline camera!

I guess those beautifuly rendered flashy/shiny court graphics come at a price . All kidding aside, I absolutely agree with your comments as it pertains to the frame rate issue. If you've read my prior posts, you'll find that I've grappled with this matter for some time and the fact that heat buildup only exacerbated it!! For me, the frame rate dips were quite substantial and truly impacted my enjoyment of the game in a negative way! Baseline low did address the problem when I went seeking a solution. It also turned out to be a revelation in my case since I'm now ecstatic about this view.

However, for others unable to adjust to this cam or who simply prefer a different or higher angled view, the problem still exists! It appears they were unable to maximize the game to run at 60fps consistently or didn't have the time? I certainly hope the latter is the case and that frame rate adjustments can still be made this year or next at worst!

i always thought broadcast players were at a disadvantage. Baseline is a perfect angle for playing a basketball game

I honestly havent noticed any frame rate issues onthe baseline cam

I do wish the swing around was faster in transition. I dont like the fixed camera option..I actually find it disorienting..but my gameplay defensively is much better vs users especially on the baseline cam. I can cut off angles so much better

That's because baseline cam, especially baseline low, alleviates or eliminates any frame rate problems!

Truthfully, there is NO way that I can go back to any other camera after stumbling on this cam.
