You have to remember too that reviewers are grading the entire package, which is a strong point for 2k. You might like the gameplay of Live more or think Live handles certain features and/or modes better (like their my player type mode); however 2K has consistently trumped Live when it comes to content and depth, which gives 2k an edge in reviews. The lack of editing and a basic franchise mode alone are causing people to pass on Live.

From my time with the demo I will say that Live is in a great spot going forward. Gameplay wise it's the best live I've ever played. If they continue to improve the gameplay and add more depth and content to the rest of the modes Live should be competing head to head to 2k within the next couple years.

Yea I mean I preordered Live before these reviews came out but it was because of the gameplay and The One which are pretty good. I'll stick to 2k though for franchise mode. (MyGM)

Is the franchise mode at least as good as it was in Live 16? If so I'm good with that.

however i think as a basketball community we gotta understand some folks will be unhappy with a game youre excited for. doesnt make either party right or wrong. its all subjective.

that being said i COMPLETELY understand where franchiseplay is coming from. i respect it. the mode does seem to be extremely stripped down.

personally i really enjoy the "player locked" modes and Live18 has put alot of focus on the The One mode. with what ive seen from the demo i cant wait for friday!

but it would be extremely stupid and closed minded of me to think everyone should feel the same. i appreciate all the criticism of Live as hopefully it leads to a more complete NBA experience for those who value that more than anything else when purchasing a basketball game.

criticism cant hurt, only improve things. at least imo..

love the game, cant wait til friday

Well said man and it goes for any reviews. People have different expectations and like different things. In this situation, for some people, it might simply come down to liking the gameplay of Live more than 2K or liking The One more than My Career. Completely understandable. But for others the poor franchise mode or the lack of editing is enough to make Live skippable.

I can definitely see why people will prefer one game over the other (whether it's Live over 2K or vice versa). The important thing for us all to remember is that as long as we have competition in the NBA videogame market we all win. Choice is always a good thing and with both games pushing the other to the limits it's only going to lead to two better products.

And like you said criticism is a good thing, as long as there is valid reasoning. If the complaint is simply "Live sucks" well then that does no one any good. But complaints like "the franchise mode is lacking features. The improvements that can be made are..." then, hopefully, EA takes notice and does work to strengthen the mode.

          Constructive criticism > blindly hating

Nothing wrong with that. In fact that's how a purchase like this should be decided. Don't just take the word of other people when you can play the game for yourself and make a decision.

^^hell man, even if it is blind hate. sometimes gamers gotta vent 😂. im cool with the occasional vent, just give us the heads up! Plus where else can gamers go to just let it out sometimes other than OS? I know it can be irritating but damn, at the end of the day we all want a great game to play

i just hope the community at least will support both games so we all win in the end

In theory it's better than 16. It is a lot like Madden. The problem is a lot is broken. The thing is though, if they can patch the broken things it would be quite a bit better than 16. Still no where near where it needs to be but I think it would suffice for now.

Read the attack of the fanboys review. I'm kind of a live super fan around here and I'll even admit this reviewer must be on crack. He says the game is "feature rich" and that franchise is standard fare. He also says the only knock on franchise is no online. Uhhhhhhh.......what????

It's disappointing to see it's Franchise is kinda lackluster but I think I can be okay with it for now. Franchise modes are my favorite but as as it's working properly and you can play multiple seasons I can live with it. I usually only ever run one team at a time anyway. I'm mostly looking into this game for the presentation. Really like the ESPN stuff

Actually after watching that video I think I'll be pretty satisfied. Only complaint I had was that it looks like it's hard to find out who won season awards. I really like the look of the menus and the fact the free agency screen shows where the players want to go. It also looks like the draft class overalls are more accurate than 2k17s. Very satisfied with that

Pastapadre has a pretty big following and has been reviewing sports games since I can remember and he's about as unbiased as you can get. Not sure if you're talking about his review or not.

If the blueprint is to get gameplay right first and then build then I can get with this program. But have a blueprint please. As I said the other day I have enjoyed the gameplay of Live and will get it as my 3rd down back. 2k will be the 1st string feature back simply because it's deeper right now. No knock to Live just is what it is right now.

Good read from both of the reviews. But the quote above has pretty much sealed the deal for me. Very, very disappointed with this news. I guess that's why we haven't heard anything from EA about franchise mode. It still might be a good pickup when the Black Friday sales come rolling out.

The review confirmed the glaring flaws that I had feared, and it basically shows why ea hasn't shown any effort to promote this game in the first place. I canceled my preorder the first time because of no roster editing, which as the review mentioned is a big thing to leave out...yet again. But the barebones franchise mode maybe being one of the worst things about the game surprised me. I wasn't expecting that bomb.

The entire review was spot on, and I saw some of the things the reviewer mentioned like: players warping, too many blocked shots, things that you shouldn't see this often from a big name brand like ea. Unfortunately, this game isn't worth $35 at this point, I will most likely be seeking a refund as soon as my order is processed.

you should've gotten ea access so you could play the full trial for 10 hours. to see for yourself.

as for waiting til black friday. the price is 30 bucks and change right now if you pre-order. if you dont. the price will most likely go back to the normal 59.99. when black friday sales roll around. It will be back to the 30 bucks it is right now.
So, if you got the cash, buy it now. if not. then wait.
