Re: Official Boston Celtics Thread

I have to say that I was pretty deflated last night, but most of that was because a) I assumed that the 76ers offers was true and b) seeing Denver move back up makes me believe that there's no reason that we couldn't have traded with Philly, then moved back up in the Top 10 to take Brown or Chriss. I assume a) the 76ers offer wasn't true and b) Sacramento didn't want to deal with Danny or something. Either way I was disappointed with the way things transpired last night.

After thinking about it more, I guess the best thing I can say is if anything we should have a really good defense. Brown effort and speeds fits the mold of what Danny loves, but Brown just doesn't strike me as the shooter that I was hoping for. If he can turn into Kawhi or Jimmy, then obviously I'll be very happy to eat my words here, but right now I'm not feeleing it. Both Yabusele and Zizic were on my pre-draft wishlist so I was fairly happy with those players. I've only watched a couple of highlight videos of Yabusele, but right now I'm more excited about him than I am Brown. From what I've read people are saying "Big Yab" (I made that up myself) could turn into a French Draymond Green, but to me he reminds me more of Zach Randolph with range (but not nearly as good of a rebounder). He's only 20 and sounds like he's going to be stashed next season, but I'm excited to follow his development.

As far as the rest of our draft Ben Bentil was on my wishlist, as well. I added him after watching a replay of the 5 on 5 combine scrimmage last weekend. He absolutely lit it up shooting and was solid on the boards too. I wouldn't be surprised to see him make the team next season honestly. Let Brad coach him up and work on his defensive game and he'll make it to the big show sooner rather than later. I like the Demetrius Jackson pick too. He's a little short for my liking, but if he continues to work on his game I could see him making the team one day. I don't really know anything about Abdel Nader. I'll have to study up on him and get back to you.

Needless to say, last night left me wanting more. Whether it's free agency, a trade or even Summer League I'm ready to see what's next.

I still can't believe we didn't take Brice Johnson at #23. That was a mistake if you ask me. Instead we took a Euro player that is probably years away from even being over here to play.

I also can't believe that Ainge didn't pull off ONE single trade! What were the odds for that not happening before the draft started? Ainge will be extra busy in FA trying to get us a star player. He has to because we didn't get anything special in this draft.

Jaylen Brown & Deyonta Davis might end up being the best players we got but they're not going to be consistent All-Star players. I'd have to give us/Ainge a C grade in just a quick evaluation. I'll need to take a closer look later but we certainly didn't kill it.
Actually, we traded picks 31 and 35 to Memphis for LAC 2019 1st (lottery protected). Memphis took Deyonta Davis and Rade Zagorac with those picks.

Re: Official Boston Celtics Thread

Bright side coming out of last night has to be BK becoming worse. As of right this minute it looks like we could have a high lottery pick in the tow upcoming drafts.

FA starts a week from today. Can we please sign one halfway decent guy to help us get out the 1st Rd.

Josh Jackson and Jaylen Brown are going to be the new Jordan/Pippen of the league. You heard it here first.

Also, I'm going to be pissed if NBA 2K17 doesn't have D-League or at least expanded rosters. How else am I going to keep all of these rookies and hone their skills?

Will hold of judgement for now on Jaylen Brown. If not for the Sixers/Bulls rumors right before the draft I would have felt perfectly fine with the selection. Going to take a good two years before knowing if it was the right move or not. Poor kid will be unfairly judged right off the bat by fans enough as it is. He'll need as many supporters in his corner as he can get.

Re: Official Boston Celtics Thread

After thinking about it I don't think the C's draft was that bad. It sounds like the Bulls weren't really that interested in moving Jimmy Butler especially if that reported asking price is true. we knew they were always going to take some draft and stash guys and given how bad the draft is maybe not a bad option. also I thought Jackson and Bentil was some good late value.

and the Noel offer trade rumor if you believe Jaylen Brown can be something special you can see how you can turn that down.

Where was I at when this happened? I was trying to watch another show on TV while watching the draft on my laptop. I guess I just missed it. I thought it was a good pick for us seeing Deyonta Davis by our name.

Now, to be told he's gone to Memphis sucks. I think Davis could have become our 2nd or 3rd best player from this draft but I guess I was paying too much attention to my TV show instead of the draft.

However, I see nothing about Rade Zagorac going/traded to Memphis with us trading the 35th pick. Everywhere I go(websites) still has him as our official pick at #35. So, you sure he was included in the trading of the 35th pick to Memphis?

Amen to that. I said if Ainge didn't pull off some sort of big trade then he has his mind on FA to grab a star/semi-star player. Looks like that is our only hope at adding a really good player to have going into next season.

I can't believe Ainge didn't do more. I trust him though but it doesn't seem right to me. Again, that's unless he's got plans on grabbing a star or two via FA. We certainly have the CAP space to get a couple.

Doubt we'll see D-League/expanded rosters for NBA 2K17. I'd like to see it too but doubt it will happen.

I have to give us a grade of C- now. I didn't realize that we had traded the rights to Deyonta Davis to the Grizzlies when I posted last night. I did have us a grade of flat C.

I think keeping Davis would have bumped us back up a bit. Oh well. I think no doubt we finished in the bottom 3rd of the draft in terms of grade overall. No better than 20th or so for sure.

If we hadn't got Jaylen Brown I would have to give us a D+ probably. He was my 3rd favorite player in the draft. Like I said, he has raw talent. He has work to do. He's really young though.

He could develop into an All-Star player in the next 2-3 years. I really don't think we have another drafted player that we could actually say that about with confidence. I like Ben Bentil & Demetrius Jackson pretty well but they're not going to be consistent All-Star players.

They will need time to develop as well but Bentil I believe is more NBA ready than any other player we drafted. I think he sticks/makes the opening day roster for the upcoming 16-17 season.

The rest I don't know about. Not even sure about Jaylen Brown. Bentil & Brown would be the only two that I think will have the best chance at being on the 15-man roster come opening night this 2016 season.

Bentil is a pretty decent shooter & man can he crash the boards with his 6'8" frame. He's also a very scrappy player as well. Hustles after just about every lose ball. I'm surprised he didn't go before pick #51 myself.

I'm still upset that we didn't draft Brice Johnson at #23. We had the chance to get him but drafted a Euro guy that's unproven but he is younger than Brice by 3 years.

Brice would have been perfect for us. He is so athletic & can jump out of the gym. He can shoot up to 18 feet out. He can shoot FT's really well for a big man too.

His only real weakness is he can't/doesn't shoot 3pt shots much at all. That's not his style though. He's an inside scoring guy with mid-range ability that can rebound & block shots. Still in shock we didn't draft him when he was right there for the taking.

From NBA.com:

Grizzlies add Davis, Zagorac
Memphis Grizzlies get:
> Deyonta Davis (No. 31 pick)
> Rade Zagorac (No. 35 pick)
Boston Celtics get:
> Future 1st round pick (lottery protected from Los Angeles Clippers)
