This or College Hoops 2k8?
So I'm stuck debating on games. I'm not a huge college basketball fan, but I do follow it yearly after football ends. Anyway, I'm posting this here and in the College Hoops forums. I'm looking for one college basketball game to buy to keep for awhile. While I love the presentation in NCAA Basketball 10, I'm certain I'll like one for better gameplay. So...this or NCAA?Tags: None -

Gameplay-wise, NCAA plays slightly better than CH2K8 provided you do some roster tweaks. CH2K8 has better CPU AI and is less glitchy, but NCAA 10 does a better job with court spacing and off-ball movement...plus I like the NCAA control scheme way better, that's just my preference. So I'm stuck debating on games. However, if you're big into dynasty then I would pick up CH2K8. It's truly one of the best dynasty/franchise modes ever in a sports game, and miles better than NCAA's. -

I've played both and I'll say NCAA; however, you're going to get a lot of people who would say otherwise.Comment

I loved College Hoops when it came out and played it like crazy, but purchased NCAA when it released this year. After spending alot of times on these forums I decided I might be cheating myself by playing NCAA only so I went out and repurchased College Hoops for $10 and to me it was nearly unplayable due in a large part to the graphics and presentation, but also the gameplay. Like others have said the player offball movement is key, but also the momentum and physics in the game are much more fluid imo.
My vote: EA's NCAA

If you're a casual fan I'd go with NCAA, simple controls and you won't notice half the horrific AI stuff. Plus the presentation will wow most casual fans."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

You should throw in an "in my opinion", since that is all that was, simply an opinion, not necessarily fact.Comment

The bolded part really hits the nail on the head. I was trying to figure out why CH2K8 gameplay felt clunky and outdated, and this is it. Players have no weight or momentum, it's like they are made of paper. And they don't seem to plant or cut hard, you have to play around with the Isomotion buttons to trigger any kind of quick or decisive move.I loved College Hoops when it came out and played it like crazy, but purchased NCAA when it released this year. Sorry but a basketball game that has the AI pass out of the post/paint roughly 1% of the time is horrible, inexcusable, unrealistic and "horrific" AI. There is no opinion involved. How can anyone justify that as good AI? Throw in the fact that the CPU does a post move once every ten games only compounds this problem. The CPU passes to the post, the CPU shoots a jumpshot from the block. ALMOST EVERY SINGLE TIME! Regardless of if he's the worst player on the floor, regardless of score/time situation, regardless of if he's double teamed, triple teamed or quintuple-teamed. How are you going to tell me that's good AI? The predictability is off the charts for the CPU. It's like a baseball game where the CPU will never throw a strike when they're ahead in the count until it's a full count. Or a football game where the CPU never passes inside the red zone.
If EA simply left the AI the same from NCAA 09 and added all the other improvements we see in NCAA '10 I would be playing it over CH2K8 easily.
I've said on here numerous times that the user offense is way better than 2K8, as are the graphics, presentation and control. But the AI is worse than any basketball (EA or 2K) on this generation of consoles. And that is a FACT, no other basketball game features such a drastic gameplay issue as NCAA '10. Hell just go play Live '10 and you'll notice a huge difference in the quality of the AI.
If you play NCAA '10 hum v hum then it's an amazing game. I'd rather play March Madness '98 against the CPU than NCAA '10. I actually played the debacle known as March Madness 08 more than I played this game."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: This or College Hoops 2k8?
Gentlemen, gentlemen, gentlemen, I am by no means defending the merits of this games ai vs any other ncaa iteration over the years. However, I do not agree that only a "casual" fan can enjoy this game, as I and many others I know who would consider themselves hardcore fans have used roster sets and sliders that have made EA's sins tolerable. Combined with some other nice aspects of the gameplay and then complimented by good presentation I believe NCAA is a decent basketball choice for the casual and hardcore alike.
As someoe who's invested many, many hours in both games, I give the edge to NCAA for the reasons I posted earlier. That is just my "opinion".Comment

If you are looking to get this for 360, be aware of the freezing issue. Definitely something to consider.
2K8 is still tons of fun to play, imo, and for the price, is a great buy.Currently Playing:

I played 2K7 for a looong time then recently it started overheating my 360 after playing for only 10 minutes. So I tired 2K8 and experienced the same problem so I've bought NCAA & haven't had the same problem so its the only way to go for me.Comment
