Since I have only recently gotten a PS2, I finally got a chance to play March Madness 2003. I liked the game, and although it was rough, I saw a lot of promise.
1. Suprisingly, shooting % wasn't as high as a game of NBA Live 03(I had the GC version), but I didn't feel as if I missed shots just to have the shooting Percentage be "real" as it is in real life.
2. Part of the Create-a-Team Feature: I like how they allowed for almost FULL cusomization of players, meaning you could change the year of Frosh to a Senior, and so forth. That option is something that needs to be in NCAA Football. When I create teams, I look to put my friends in. I go by when I was a senior. Friends who were one or two classes ahead of me are Red Shirts Seniors, and those below go by when the got in to college(junior friends are Juniors and so forth) Sometimes, I create have to create people instead of just editting them b/c they you can't change a person's year in school.
3. AI. Loved it. Particularly at the end of the game where they started shooting 3's, and would foul to stop the clock and try to catch up. Wasn't done in NBA Live 2003, and was done real well.
THINGS TO CHANGE
1. Make it smoother. After playing this, I really am going to miss playing NBA Live 2004 on my GC. That game, whether you like it or not ran so smooth on the GC, and I'm sure it ran the same way on the X-Box. Clear up some of the framrate issues. If you can do it with the NCAA Football, with more men on the field, then you can do it with March Madness.
2. Create a Team. There are only 10 spaces!! Where are all the logos from NCAA Football?? Add all of the those, so you won't be so limited. Don't forget to allow Brad Nessler to say all of the teams names, like he did in NCAA football. I have created teams with the name of Sabres, Comets, Sharks, Bears, Jets, and he says them, so bring them on the NCAA March Madness. I already have 11 created teams already in NCAA Football, and will probably make a few more.
Also, there should be no limit to the creation points for the players on the created teams. I hated when this was done on the Sega's B-Ball games, and i don't want it here. NBA Live had it right, and since it based on the same engine, bring it on over to NCAA March Madness. I don't want a team with All players with 100s, but if I wanted to, I should be able to do that!(I never would...it makes for no challenge) However, if I want a team with one Player in the 90s, and to or three in the 80s, I should be able to do it. Also, use numbers next
For the created teams themselves maybe do like the NCAA game and have different levels of created teams (Pereniall Powerhouses[UCLA, Kentucky, UNC, Duke, Kansas, Arizona], Run and Gun[Like Kansas and the old Oklahoma Teams], Methodic[IE Princeton] 3-Point Specialists, Academic, and So Bad they should be in D-II.
The Last thing for Create-A-Team is the color Selection For the Uniforms. Those sliding bars are horrible. Just have a window like NCAA Football with all the color selections, and allow for the possibilty of editing the colors. I know the games are made my different production houses, but come on, you guys work in the same company. Share expertise in the Owner/Dynasty areas to make the best product out there. Also for next year, add the build your coliseum option.
3. Announcing of names, and names on the backs of Jerseys. If you have a Players name entered after it has been edited, it should be on the back of the jersey. Also there is not excuse for Brad Nessler not to be saying who has the ball. At least comment that its SG#21 or something like that. They recorded Nessler with over 1500 names for NCAA Football these past two years. They really should have no problem using those name in the Basketball game. The commentary, which had potential seems disjointed with him not saying any names. It was almost as if the had set aside a spot for him to say a name, but there is a silence instead as he describes the play.
Since the game is almost gold, I know they probably won't be able to add this if they haven't already done it. But if they could, these are things to consider for next year.
Also, bringing it to the GC would be nice
