Anyone try opening the HDD's casing?

... and removed the notebook hard drive inside? You could connect that directly to a PC. Anyone tried this? Is it risky? I understand it would probably void any warrantly associated with the HDD, but would the core system's warranty stack in tact?

Why don't you just buy an XSATA and then you don't have to worry about voiding your warranty? It has SATA connectors along with a USB port to connect to a computer.

Yep it works you dont really need the transfer kit, lots of guys use this method to transfer saves, its called the "Free Method" I use this method because I refuse to spend money on a gimmick at best.

Of course your not voiding the warranty on the X360, only the Drive but really its only a 90 dollar drive if that. spending money on a transfer kit that costs half that makes no sense to me when it can be done for free. Enjoy

The way I do it is I leave only 2 screws on the casing and throw away the metal piece inside for easy access, takes me about 2 minutes each time to transfer the save and get to gaming again. You really dont need to remove the HDD out you can leave it in the case and hook it up to your PC, if you take it apart you will see.

Your Pc should have the cables in it already if not then 1 sata cable and 1 power cable. Same way your hardrive is hooked up now in your PC.

Yes, I need to buy 1 SATA cable and there are power cables already in the PC to use. Maybe this is out of the scope of the rosters forum, but then can you swap that notebook drive out (for say a larger one)? Does it have to be formatted a specific way? Thanks for all the help!

100 gig notebook drive will work in x360 if formated with the tool HDDHAKR, cheaper then buying one

Can you save your games to it and use it as your main hard drive?
