New to rosters

I have never gotten rosters from anywhere before and I am wondering how they work online. I dont have Xbox live because my internet isnt fast enough but my friend does so could I just take my hard drive over there and get them or something?And if i could, what do i need to get them offline or can you just download them. And one last question, do they usually have the rosters out right when the game comes out or does it take a week or two before you can get them. Thanks for any help because I really am clueless about all of this, and I'd rather not put all the names in myself.

yes; just download them; sometimes the day it comes out, but usually a few days to a week after is when they fist start to come out.

Ok thanks. So they could come out the day the game comes out or up to a week after?And do you have to pay anything for them or do you just have to have Xbox live?
