    Pass Coverage (My Theory)

So far I have had tremendous results lowering the Pass Coverage for both CPU and Human on All-American. By doing this, you can't leave QB ability at default, but lower them 15-20 points each. This results in more under/over throws. I also boosted WR catches a notch and INT's a notch. This allows for less unrealistic drops that are normally used as a placebo for bad throws.

Assuming I haven't confused the crap out of anyone, my goal is to get a realistic pass game for both the CPU and Human without having to sacrifice realism. So far it's worked, and I think I might be on to something. If anyone is interested in trying the theory out let me know your results. Thanks.

    Re: Pass Coverage (My Theory)

Good thought. I really like the fact that receivers come open with lower coverage settings and lowering the QB slider makes the throws not automatic. After reading through Playmakers thread, it appears that the interception slider affects the "break on the ball" while the coverage slider affects positioning. One thing I've looked at is lowering coverage to 35 and passing to 25 while raising interceptions to 100. The theory here is that you will have open receivers but if you do throw into coverage, you will be punished. Good luck!

Thanks for the comment. I definitely will try out raising the INT slider for both sides and see how it works out.

This is an amazing idea. I am implementing this to my slider set now. It is showing a lot of potential after my testing on this idea.

Cool, let me know how it goes. I've made some minor changes, and am about to try them out in a UF vs Alabama game. Right now I have QBA at 30 for both the CPU and human, WR Catching at 65 for both sides, Pass Coverage to 35 for both sides, and INT's at 55 for both sides. Ill let everyone know how the game goes.

This is what I did with my slider set. I went into practice and would change the Pass Coverage from 50 to 45 to 40, etc. And I would do this over and over for each one and watch it in the replay. After doing it enough times I found a good number that minimizes the DBs mirroring your WR. I just had to recently up CPU Pass Coverage because the out route in this game was having the same success as it did in 2k8. Since then I have gotten it to act a lot more realistic.

I am constantly tweaking them. I can't find that sweet spot I want. It feels like offense is too easy at times and I don't want that. What I am looking for is the CPU to have a bit stronger offense and have their defense get stronger without making the coverage slider go up. If anyone has any recommendation shoot'em at me.

I'm actually at 10/20 for QB ACC

                      75/75 Catching

                      20/20 Pass Coverage

I am getting very interesting results. I like how the game feels. More variations of bad passes and pass coverage breakdowns.

                        Re: Pass Coverage (My Theory)

One thing I've found out is that before you tweak sliders, you "MUST" decide what slider set will be used for. Meaning will you be playing mostly use vs user/quick games or user vs cpu in dynasty mode. I've found that slider tweaks done in quick games and practice mode do not carry over well into dynasty play. For some reason gameplay/player's do not react in the same manner you see in quick play/practice mode's (maybe it's greater variance in teams with spread out player ratings vs just 2 selected teams).

If you are a Offline Dynasty person:
Part of the problem is deciding what two teams to use for adjusting sliders.
Do you use two power teams, two weak teams, a combination of both, or middle of the pack teams vs the affor mentioned.

Are you using the default roster's, or an edited roster download or your own edited roster's?

All impact the affect slider selections will have.
This is the kicker and why there is such a variance in what slider's are the right one for what looks "Realistic" to you.

Another issue in dynasty is that edited roster's that are not inline with how the in-game generator creates player's, will be based on edited ratings that will no longer apply after 4 yrs, creating gameplay differences not wanted.

                        Example:
Slider's are tweaked using default roster to improve pass coverage w/less def. mirror. Default roster consist of player's with high SPD/AGL/ACC ratings. Slider's are tweaked with these player's to get desired gameplay. After 4 yrs, in-game utilizes the spread out ratings to generate player's (1 stars in 40'ish OVR, 4-5 stars in 70'ish OVR) that don't fit the slider set you've created for highly attribute type player's that are no longer in the game.

                        So as you edit your slider's to improve pass coverage;
1st, decide what mode you want the slider's to affect (Quick Play/User vs User or Offline Dynasty vs CPU)
2nd, make sure your roster's fit the mode you want to play

SSL of a post, just wanted to share what I found out.
Wondering if I should just use two middle of the pack teams and go with it so I can start to actually play the game.

So I just played Georgia Tech (Me) vs Miami (CPU) and definitely think I have the right idea. Harris went 21-32 and 235 yards plus a Touchdown, no INT's. Nesbitt went 3-7 and a 110 yards (I had a beautiful Triple Option pass where Miami didn't notice until to late for 60+ yards). It was my first upset against a better team rating wise as I went on to win 28-7. Looking at whether or not I want to change any of the other sliders from default.
