Ben's Post-Patch Default Sliders

Yes, you read the title correctly. I'm starting a discussion (and hopefully it will amount to more than that) in hopes that I can develop a heisman slider set as close as possible to default. Now I know this may sound a little unreasonable considering all the bugs and gameplay issues, but I've found that the game flows best at around default, and gives the best challenge on heisman. Feedback is welcome and appreciated!

My biggest issues with sliders is that more often times than not, we get so sucked into them that we forget to just sit back and have a good time. What I look for when I sit down and play some NCAA (or any video game for that matter), is to create my own unique experience. So with that said, I'm going to go ahead and give you all a few slider sets that hopefully can match your skill level, and give you a great challenge.

Goals:
  • For the game to be fun
  • To create a good challenge between the CPU and Human
  • To have a minimum amount of house rules (if any)
  • To create a realistic game (but in the process not forgetting that this is still a video game)
  • Creating an accurate pass completion % for both the Human and CPU, while attaining a good amount of underthrows/less deflected pass
  • To make every game a different and fun experience

Gameplay Options/Rules

Skill: All American/Heisman
Quarter Length: 7 Minutes (Easiest)-9 Minutes (Hardest)
Game Speed: Slow
Threshold: 45
Holding:55
Facemask: 54
Clipping: 54

How It Will Work:

Now I'm not sure how often this is done on Operations Sports (only been here a few years now), but the biggest thing for me has always been to get a good game out of the CPU. I know for a lot of you here its realistic or bust, and I enjoy a realistic game as much as the next guy, but what I like even better than that is to have fun playing, and have the ability to both win some games, and lose some games. With that said, I understand everyone is looking for a different kind of challenge, and I hope you'll find something on here that works for you.

Wussy Sliders:

So some of you aren't that good with the sticks or are just looking to put a pounding on the CPU. Thats fine, to each their own! What you should find with these Sliders are that you'll get a fun game, but a relatively low challenge. The CPU run game might have trouble, but you won't want to overlook them either.

Gameplay:

Difficulty: All American
Quarter Length: 7 Minutes

Human/CPU

QB Accuracy: 35/35
Pass Block: 55/50
WR Catching: 55/50
RB Ability: 50/55
Run Blocking: 50/55
Pass Rush: 50/45
Interceptions: 50/35
Rush Defense 50/50
Tackling: 50/45
FG Power: 50/40
FG Accuracy: 50/45
Punt Power: 50/50
Punt Accuracy: 40/40
Kickoff Power: 50/50

Re: Ben's Post-Patch Default Sliders

Tough Sliders:

You should get a pretty realistic game here, and if you can overlook the CPU having a few cheats up its sleeve and just have a good time with it, these sliders might be for you. I've left a lot of stuff on default, because I think the CPU is pretty challenging enough without touching a whole lot. The CPU will find a run game, and you'll have to deal with an enormous pass rush on a regular basis. Your passes won't always be on the money, and even when they are, a super linebacker will probably be there to stop it. Good luck.

Gameplay:

Difficulty: Heisman
Quarter Length: 8 minutes

Hum/CPU

QB Accuracy: 25/30
Pass Blocking: 50/50
WR Catching: 55/50
RB Ability: 50/55
Run Blocking: 50/60
Pass Coverage: 30/35
Pass Rush: 50/50
Interceptions: 10/10
Rush Defense: 45/55
Tackling: 45/50
FG Power: 40/50
FG Accuracy: 35/40
Punt Power: 50/50
Punt Accuracy: 50/50
KO Power: 50/50

Death Sliders:

If you use these, you are a man among boys. A god among mortals. Be careful, even the best fall here. The CPU might cheat, they might even glitch, and nothing will stop them from pummeling you. Do your best not to throw your controller, because this is going to be tough. The CPU is going to hit throws you might not, they'll have gaps in the run game you've never seen in your life, and you might think you have time in the pocket only to get slammed to the ground. I can only wish you the best of luck with these ones, you're going to need it.

Gameplay:

Difficulty: Heisman
Quarter Length: 9 Minutes

Human/CPU

QB Accuracy: 20/35
Pass Blocking: 45/50
WR Catching: 50/55
RB Ability: 50/60
Run Block: 40/65
Pass Coverage: 30/50
Interceptions: 10/45
Rush Defense: 40/55
Tackling: 45/50
FG Power: 40/55
FG Accuracy 15/45
Punt Power: 40/50
Punt Accuracy 10/50
KO Power: 50/55

Re: Ben's Post-Patch Default Sliders

Gave the Tough Sliders a try, me using Florida. It wasn't a bad game, and it was loads of fun, especially the first half. I got out to an early lead and became a little too conservative on both sides of the ball.

Things I Noticed:
  • T. Richardson is a monster
  • I might turn the CPU Run Block down a notch, but overall I liked the feel of the CPU run game. Lots of open field, which was great.
  • The CPU seemed to adapt well. I put 8 guys in the box almost the entire first half, and held Richardson to 49 yards on 9 carries. Soon enough, they started running a lot of Play Action, and destroyed my secondary.
  • Lots of penalties it seemed like. Even had a CPU delay of game.
  • About as tough as I hoped for. Not sure if I want to change anything except maybe CPU Run Block, but I'll probably give it one more game before I do that.
  • Lots of great catches on both sides of the ball. I love where the WR Catch ratings are at.
  • I was sacked 4 times, 3 times on a blitz package, 1 time on a coverage sack.
  • The run game was tough going for me, but Rainey and Demps both broke out a couple of nice runs. Alabama seems to run a pro defense out onto the field.

Re: Ben's Post-Patch Default Sliders

Another great game on the Tough Sliders difficulty. This game was actually not even as close as it looked, as I once picked one off only for my guy to fumble and FAU to pick it up and return it to the 5 yard line for an easy TD. I'm concerned for how long it took for me to get my offense going, but I did, and it was satisfying in a big way. Passing seemed just about right, and the run game was hit or miss for me, but when you have guys like Demps and Rainey, thats normally how it is.

Things I Noticed:
  • I'm starting up a dynasty under this slider set as Florida, and this was my first game. You can imagine I was nervous when I got down early.
  • Demps and Rainey are a great combo.
  • Hines is a great guy to have in the slot, and was a big mismatch the whole game.
  • The sweetest play of the game came from a 15 yard pass from Brantley to Thompson on a fade rout. Thompson reached over his defender and grabbed the ball in mid-air, an animation I hadn't seen before.
  • I could see turning down rush defense back to default for the CPU, as they really shut me down in the first half.
  • The 215 yards for their QB are misleading, as they had a 65 yard bomb after I accidently switched over to the CB, leaving their WR wide open.

To be honest, I haven't tried yet. I'll do my best to get some coach mode sliders up for everyone, because I know thats a really popular play style around here.
