If the QBs play type is set to Scrambler, lower the speed/acc/agility values gently until his playstyle is set to Balanced. Agility I think is the biggest factor

I'll check the rosters, I was using vikes, I'm pretty sure they did that. I was doing the simulations of the playoff games, and all four qbs ran more than the backs. Even with autosubs set.

Seems to happen on "slow" game speed only. I like to view the game on slow, but that toss delay issue is a deal-breaker, so I set it to "normal" game speed, and do not see it happening any longer.

What is CPU vs CPU style of play and how does it differ from coach mode?

CPU vs CPU: you are literally only watching the game, not picking plays.
Coach mode: you are picking plays but not controlling players.
