M3U Question

Do you have to use directives in your m3u file code? So instead of:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:0,BYU_DOF_c.mp3
BYU_DOF_c.mp3

Can you just get away with BYU_DOF_c.mp3 and saving the file as m3u? I get a lot of delay on some of my sounds. The delay increases the farther you go down the alphabet. I can't really move my source folders because I'm using Rivet. I just wondered if using directive in my m3u code would help the game find the file faster. It's an in game issue too. I have zero delay in the media player. Thanks!
