i dont think this is even possible. I think individual colleges have to be contacted for use in a videogame. For example consider the use of the stadium the team plays on. The NCAA doesnt have any rights over that stadium, the university does,(and what about independent teams like Notre Dame? and what about individual conferences and their title games?) even if somehow EA pulls it off, how worthless is this deal? EA criticized Take Two for spending money on the MLB deal, well think about what EA would be buying. Well lets see... it still wont allow them to use player names so everyone would still have to manually put in names or download them. My point is say VC wanted to make a NCAA football game. All they would need to do is change the name to College Football 2k? and instead of having say The Missouri Tigers they would have, just Missouri. If you wanted to make it the tigers then you could. All it would take is a little editing or downloading just like it would in the EA game(for player names). Both games would require you to edit or download rosters(etc) so it is kind of pointless. The only thing that could really be affected would be the location(field) and that could be edited as well. So it's all a bit pointless.

The only people that are so outraged over these deals are the ones that hate EA. They don't bitch about the MLB deal. It cracks me up with their situational ethics.

There are some that aren't immature enough to realize that ALL of these deals suck for us. THe one thing we also realize as people that have played video games for more than 5 years is that times like this usually cause companies to INNOVATE. Something that has been sorely lacking in all video games for years.

I laugh at the endless debates over which football, baseball, etc game to get when ANY would be solid choices and BOTH have real issues. As we enter this 'exclusive' era the strong will continue to survive, there will be some new games that come out of nowhere and are successful and some that just flop. In the end what always sells the most is GREAT games. I don't care about the marketing budget or licensce. Build it and they will come.

Wrong. I started a thread on the ESPN board about how I think exclusivity sucks, including the MLB deal. I love ESPN football, but my favorite MLB game is EA's MVP. The NASCAR game I preferred was NASCAR Heat. I am bothered by the fact that EA is gobbling up exclusivity deas. That does piss me off.

But again I think exclusivity, no matter who gets the deal, sucks for the consumer.

Freudian slip above. You said you're "bothered by the fact that EA is gobbling up exclusivity deals" which somewhat belies the fact that in the other areas of your post you say all exclusive deals suck no matter who gets the deal. If that's the case why not just say you're bothered by the fact that companies, not EA specifically, are gobbling up exclusivity deals?

I'm not sure you even realized that bit of obvious slip because you probably are bothered by any exclusivity deals but EA's bother you more probably because you like the competitions previous football game more. In your defense I think alot of people don't really care much for exclusive deals but as long as its their game that gets it then they really don't get too all upset about it.

I do place most of the blame for the movement towards these exclusivity deals at the feet of EA. Who's leading the sports gaming industry in getting exclusivity deals? Who has NASCAR? Who has soccer? Who has the NFL? Who is going after the NCAA? And yes, I know you're a huge EA supporter, that's obvious by the posts of your's that I've read. You and that Pared dude seem to be EA zealots. Are you so much of an EA zealot that everything has to be turned into a EA vs. "somebody" battle?

I'm not playing fanboy here. If it were VC that was going after and getting several exclusivity deals, I'd put the blame on them. I can't stand VC's MLB exclusivity deal. But it's the only one by another company other than EA in the sports gaming venue that I know of. If the shoe were on the other foot and VC was monopolizing the sports gaming industry, most of my complaining and bitching would be towards VC. It's that simple dude. Ease off the zealot attitude.

Yes, I do prefer ESPN football to Madden....in a BIG way. I think it's much, much better. Just my opinion. I also liked MVP much, much better than ESPN's MLB game last year. I think the MLB exclusivity deals sucks big time. EA knew they had to get better (because of competition) and they did. In a huge way. How much better is MVP than Triple Play? Now, MVP won't be around after this year and I think that sucks. I'm getting screwed as a consumer by this exclusivity deal.

I liked NASCAR Heat much more than EA's NASCAR efforts. Like I said in my last post. Exclusivity sucks. NO MATTER WHICH COMPANY GETS THE EXCLUSIVITY DEAL. But, I really wonder how much of this would be going on if EA was so big and greedy.
