My own countdown...

With the release of the game closing fast upon us.....

I thought that I would release a countdown of the top 25 teams with a short profile on each team. Remember I'm an English major but I've never had my own College Football Preview before.... I edit rosters, I'm not a sports editor. There will be some brief information on each team. I will include some brief scheduling information and players to watch, etc. Without further adieu... Today I begin the countdown with #25 Georgia Tech.

#25 GEORGIA TECH


My prediction: 7-4 record is possible with one shocker. But 6-5 is realistic.

Insane schedule with five top 25 games scheduled.

9/3 at Auburn
9/10 North Carolina
9/17 Connecticut
9/24 at Virginia Tech
10/6 NC State
10/15 at Duke
10/22 at Miami
10/29 Clemson
11/5 Wake Forest
11/12 at Virginia
11/26 Georgia


Will one of the best defenses in the country be enough this year? Will the same Reggie Ball that led the dominant 51-14 victory over Syracuse in the Champs Sports Bowl be the leader this year. Or will it be the elusive, but inconsistent Ball leading the troops. Can All-American Calvin Johnson get enough receptions to matter. And will RB P.J. Daniels return to his form from 2003 when he rushed for over 1,400 yards.

The defense is loaded. 2003 ACC Sacks leader Eric Henderson returns at defensive end. And the ACC's No. 2 tackler Gerris Wilkinson returns to anchor the defense from his LB position. The secondary is loaded and former safety Chris Reis returns to SS after a year at linebacker. Reis led the team with 8 sacks last year and 6 pass break-ups so he has a nose for the ball.

Like kickers matter.... but sophomore Travis Bell returns this year. Last year Bell made 15 of 17 field goals and all 31 PATs. So the Jackets have a consisent kicking game this year.

I believe with the inexperienced offensive line and the inconsistent Ball leading the offense that Georgia Tech will struggle versus the big dawgs. Sure their defense will be as stingy as last year but it won't be enough. This team will be no better than fourth in the ACC Coastal Division just ahead of ACC basketball super powers Duke and North Carolina. Lindy's prediction of #41 is a more accurate reflection of how Georgia Tech should be ranked. Sure this team has top 25 talent but I believe this schedule will be the un-doing of this team.
