Does the Stiff Arm Work??

Is there some trick i dont know...
I've been playing this game since '01 and im using ND in my dynasty... Everytime i stiff arm i just get tackled by the guy right next to me, and usually i get the falling backwards stiff arm animation. I know im not supposed to break every tackle but i expect to break maybe 5 a game and get some real yards after first hit..

Im using playmakers sliders and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Practice mode. It's all about timing and the overall strength of the back. Lets say for instance if you were using a small back like kejuan jones would not be wise in stiff arming someone, but if you had a bigger and stronger back like Lawrence Maroney or Adrian Peterson u could get away with it periodically. It's always hard to stiff arm with the small finesse backs (5-8 180 lbs. average) with low strength and low tackle breaking.

I know man... I was practicing all day today to see if it mattered if i tapped the R-trigger or if i held it down...

Whether my player was running straight or to the side..

I was using Oklahoma against UNC defense... I would get like 5 yards a carry, if i didnt use the stiff arm. When i stiff armed at the line of scrimmage id either get tackled or break the tackle but then get hammered.

I just dont think it works like it should, or else im doing something wrong.

It doesnt work as well as it could. Rarely do I break tackles using the stiff arm.

So, like always speed-backs are the way to go??

I wish they cold make a power back actually good!

It works alright...at making your back fumble. Seriously, if you want to break tackles, try pressing up on the right analog stick. It helps stop you from fumbling, and I've run quite a few people over with it.

I use Jerod Void from Purdue and he is a power back. The key is to not smash the turbo button, and never be hitting the turbo button when you are trying to juke, stiff-arm, etc. I have found the juke seems to be more effective. Hope this helps.

How often do you really see this happen anyway??

The power move and jukes work best in close quarters. Even HUGE backs really don't stiff arm in close quarters b/c of fear of losing the ball.

The stiff arm works best in a one on one if the guy is coming at you from the side, and you should usually hit it about a half second early so the player (your guy) can extend his arm with enough time....
