NCAA 2004 - Recruiting

I never played 2004 (I haven't played anything past 2003), but from what I've read it appears that a lot of folks regard it as the best in the series. So I'm considering buying a used copy. Was recruiting any different than 2003? I know there was no in-season recruiting, but could you pitch a specific aspect (early playing time, location, etc) to a recruit in 2004? Was it too easy to reel in top recruits as a mediocre team?

Re: NCAA 2004 - Recruiting

2004 was a great version in this series, however, I purchased 2005 and have enjoyed it. The passing game is more difficult, but when you figure out how to read the momentum meters on the players and realize that you have to throw with more touch, passing is tolerable.

If I were you,I would get 2004 and play it for a while, but when you get tired of it you can pick up 2005 real cheap, it is worth it. By then you will be able to pick up 2006 cheap. All of the games are worth having.

Re: NCAA 2004 - Recruiting

If NCAA 2007 had NCAA 2004 gameplay with NCAA 2006 everything else, it would be the best game ever.

And to answer the question, I'd buy it...there are some glitches (the ol' mid-major glitch is a biggie), but overall it's a very solid game.

Ah yes the old people didn't like th epassing cause they couldn't learn to pass well argument. If it's tolerable, then I guess you're on PS2 caus eon XBOX the CPU couldn't pass at all. I've seen many games where the CPU QB passed for 25-30%. I tried several copies of the game on 2 different XBOX's. This was obviously not acceptable to me. I had the PS2 version for a while and it was much better. But I wouldn't recommend the XBOX version of 2005 to anyone. I did learn to pass fairly well with the momentum and all that but the CPU didn't. Go figure.

Re: NCAA 2004 - Recruiting

As he said, on PS2 NCAA 2004 is where it's at, but the drop bug (not really a bug, but you know) for 2005 and 2006 started on the Xbox in 2004. However, I can't go back from 2005-2006 because you can't flip the play. I can't deal with 2 weak side plays in the I (speed option and fullback dive).

Soldier's right, the drop issue that has plagued '04-'06 on the xbox is not there on the '04 version for the PS2. I'm not sure how drops are on the PS2 versions of '05 and '06 since I played them for the xbox only.

I can say from personal experience that '04 on the PS2 was much more enjoyable than '05 or '06 on the xbox.

Recruiting in 04 is too easy. I remember someone posted on here some kind of rules to follow when recruiting in 04. Not sure where you can get that now.

The rules were pretty decent, but the printout I had of it is long gone.
