Yes, true, it is an outfit in a game. And that goes back to my point that it's not necessary to constitute it as an integral part of the game as it ships. That by very definition is an extra.

ODogg, I've great respect for you as a presence here on OS, but...How can you say this?! What constitutes a "complete" game is wholly subjective. So defining this or that as "by definition" an "extra" is absurd--you're using YOUR definition. If we extend your argument to its logical conclusion, all modes other than "Play Now," the ability to edit rosters, the ability to select your favorite team--all this and more would be considered "not integral" to the game "as it ships." The track your taking will lead nowhere.

Rather, consider that alternate uniforms have BEEN an "integral" part of the NCAA series at least since the first version on PS2. To take this option out and offer it back up for sale is, at least to some degree, unethical. Illegal? No. As important an issue as immigration reform? No. A business move that shows little respect for a game's fan base? Absolutely.

People's views on this are pretty clear by reading through the thread. Let's all just wait and see how it plays out. Hopefully EA will find a way to employ this business maneuver in a way that won't completely alienate many of its NCAA consumers.

Here is another thing I've been thinking about: NCAA (and most sports games for that matter) are somewhat unique when compared to other games, in that there is a new version released every year. If EA was spending time creating "extras" to purchase on Marketplace after the game was released, couldn't they instead put that work towards improving next year's version? Or, at the very least, include those "extras" that were being sold on the Marketplace in the next year's version too?

This is what I would assume they would do. For example, EA doesn't have time to update and include every alternate jersey (not to mention the jersey changes that take place during the season), so they release these jerseys on the Marketplace for those who really want to have them in their game. However, the next year when the new version of the game comes out, those alternate jerseys would be included in that version since they already went through the trouble of creating them. I have no problem at all if EA wants to do this.

That's all it comes down to. Of course, using O's logic, we've been given this "extra" for free for many years now.

How much of the DVD do the current-gen NCAA games occupy? I'm guessing that if the current-gen games take up a significant chunk of space, the next-gen games would likely fill it completely. If so, perhaps offering downloadables is the only way EA can get us the extras that won't fit on one disc. After all, who's going to buy a multi-disc NCAA game?

I'm not defending EA. I actually brought up this point when it was revealed that the All-Time teams wouldn't be included. The PS3, with higher-capacity BD-ROM discs, might have the space to include all the extras. In the same way, I think the downloadable, “episodic” content for the 360’s GTA 4 might be needed because of disc capacity.

Speaking of All-Time teams, has anyone heard if they will be part of Xbox Live Marketplace for NCAA 07? I’ve been a huge fan of that feature, and would certainly pay extra to have it included this year. I mean, who wouldn’t want to play with a defense that had Pep and LT on the field at the same time?

yes and all games must have extras, so they don't include them because they are "nice" or hwatever. if the alternates aren't there that doesn't mean we're not still getting extras because EA was nice before and they're "mean" now, it just means they've decided to include other extras they believe would appeal more to the masses than alternate jerseys would.
