Re: How is the momentum meter handled in the 360 version?
I have to admit that this isnt one of my favorite parts of the game...
I do like the fact that momentum makes a difference, but it doesn't feel right to me. For example - in the one game - I was playing Pitt vs. Akron at home at Heinz Field. Akron went down and scored a TD on the first possession. The momentum bar was completely filled (5 bars) on their side. Fine - that makes sense.
But - I answered right back with a TD and Akron still had 4 bars. Then - I picked off a pass (still 4 bars for Akron). I drove down for a TD to go up 14-7 (3 bars for Akron). Basically - the momentum meter wasnt even again until I was up 24-7.
This just doesn't feel right to me. On one hand, if you are the underdog and you score the opening TD in a road game, I think all the momentum would be your way.
But - if the home team scores 24 unanswered points - I think that the momentum has swung back to the home side.
As such, I feel like the momentum meter isn't really a reflection of the actual feeling of momentum in a football game.
I would like to see the momentum meter be two tiny "heart rates" at the bottom of the screen (perhaps on the right or the left of the information bar that scrolls underneath). If your team is playing well and/or makes a big play (interception, key 3rd and long conversion, in the midst of a comeback), the little heart rate would beat wildly. If your team is playing poorly - especially at home vs. an underdog - it would flatline.
I would prefer this, because I think that both teams have momentum (or not) during games. Think about it - in a 37-31 shootout, both teams are driving up and down the field and/or are making big plays on defense/special teams. They both have momentum. And - in one of those games where both offenses are struggling and playing poorly - neither team really has momentum.
