What triggers you to change your OL strategy?

With this year's game you can change your OL's strategy before the snap, but I don't really know what I should change it to on the fly. For example, should I adjust my OL when I see the defense slide to the left or right? Or when the defense pinches in on me? What should I do with my OL in these circumstances?
Thanks.

Re: What triggers you to change your OL strategy?

I don't use it that often myself. If I think the blitz is coming and I've got some deeper routes, I usually pinch my o-line because the outside rusher tends to take longer. If they shift their d-line over and I don't have a RB to that side to help out, I might slide them that way. Some have said it helps in the run game but I haven't seen this when I have tried. I will gladly read help on this as well.

I never even thought about that scenario, but it makes sense. I change the direction of my runs quite a bit without flipping the play (audible then direction pad) and I've wondered if that is a time I should adjust my OL's strategy.

I don't know, I'm talking XBox/PS2. But if you can do it on the 360, the strategies should be the same. Maybe more people have some insight on this feature?

I don't think you can do it on 360. I haven't seen anything at all that resembles this. I wish you could though. I take too many sacks waiting to through that long bomb.

this is what the blocking scheme for a toss to the right out of I-from should look like, as you can see it is a series of 1-1 matchups and it doesnt have much big play potential. If the corner back isn't blocked then you must spin back into this mess to try to salvage a few yards.

Slide Protection

But, if you slide protection to the right a lot more opportunity opens for you.
All of your lineman will block the man to the right of the man they are supposed to block.
The Weak Side End (Blue Circle) will not be blocked on this play, instead the tightend on the right side will either help out on one of the backers, or block the corner/safety to help make this a big gain.

The only downside is the strongside end and tacke (marked in green). As you can see they are supposed to be blocked by the center and guard. Sometimes the players get jumbled up a little and either the end or tackle breaks in untouched.

Because of that you only want to slide with a fullback to take that block.

Hope this helps, I know the pictures aren't great but it's the best I could do.

Just go into practice mode and experiment which protection works well with each play.
