Snapshot Photoshop tutorials (?)

I've seen a few people post some snapshots with an added twist (Sports Illustrated covers, etc). I wouldn't mind learning how to do this...anyone care to offer any type of tutorial?

Here is basically what I did. Very simple if once you are familiar with the controls. There are a ton of photo editors out there to choose from - free to expensive. I am a dying bread - I use PhotoPaint but the same instructions should apply to just about any.

- crop image to magazine size
- freehand wand to mask the player from the background
- copy masked area (this gives you a object/layer of just the player to you use later)
- light gaussian blur to image to give depth of field look to background
- add sports illustrated text (found the font free online)
- paste my player object/layer back in place (this covers part of the SI text)
- apply just a little of a soften filter to player object
- color correct / adj to your liking
- add black borders
- add other text
