It is long, but there is a lot of good thinking going on in this thread about recruiting. And as you will see, it is still a work in progress.

Re: In-season recruiting player rankings

Also, in-season recruits are almost always rated worse than off-season ones. I don't know why, but I've recruited **** players in season who are a 76 and then get some *** guys at the same position with worse specs who are either the same or even better. Then, the **** guys are 80 or something.

And also, I wish EA would incoporate some variance into their offseason system. I want to see a * be a 72 or something and a ***** be a total bust at a 68. That would be awesome.

I know this may be a little far fetched, but if this was real life......think of it this way.....

The in-season recruits attributes are based on what they have done so far in high school. They are already ranked before you know anything about them. You don't know if they guy has only played 1 year or 3 years of football. It is probably based on what they did in their last year of football.

Off-season recruits have played their senior year of football and may have had some breakout season where as the in-season guys (who have already been recruited mind you) may not have had such a great year overall and thus may fall in the rankings when compared to the guys who have played and recruiters have had time to scout them.

So by the off-season, the rankings may be a little more accurate even though scouting is not an exact science. You should always go by their stats and not the stars. A team full of 5* players would be great but will bring you trouble down the road if thay all have poor potential and/or discipline

I had a few incidents where the NCAA wanted me to suspend some players and I didn't follow their advice fully. I never let a player off completely, but I used my own judgement instead of what the NCAA recommended. I looked at my player's discipline rating, and if it was good, I wouldn't suspend him too bad. I got in real hot water when going into my final home game of the season I had two seniors, with A and B discipline ratings hit for program standards. The NCAA wanted them suspended for the whole game and I just suspended them for a quarter. I had a few other incidents during the year too. I guess I should have just done what the NCAA said, but I felt it was too harsh. :P

So for the past couple years that I have been on probation I have taken the advice of the NCAA when problems come up. Luckily I have only had two incidents in the last two years. Unfortunately I had to suspend my senior 99 overall LB for 3 games to satisfy the NCAA last year.

The probation has added a new difficulty to my game, so it's been kinda fun. It has also been nice not to have to agonize over who to cut before a season since I don't meet the maximum roster limit anymore.

Re: In-season recruiting player rankings

Maybe giving EA to much credit, but it's possible there are fewer 5 star recruits during in-season recruiting, because you are mostly recruiting guys playing their senior season of highschool. I imagine the extra year pushes many of the 4 star recruits to 5 star recruits. Again, probably not the logic, but this is true in the real world.

LOL...real world, it entirely depend on who is doing the ranking and who is after you for how many stars you end up with. A Texas guy who's only getting offered by Baylor, Utep, and Oklahoma State? 2 stars. UT-Austin jumps into the mix late? Wow, even though the season has been over for 2 months, we've suddenly decided he's gotta be a 4 star player! Tom Lemming wants you to consider Notre Dame? Then of course you're a 5 star stud! Drop the Irish from consideration? Welllll, maybe you're not that good after all...3 stars is enough for you. Not to get too off-track with real life stuff, but the whole star system in football recruiting is a crock.
