ok well i know its not jsut my game that does this ... when i press B to switch defenders it switches to a guy thats by the ball but not closest to the ball and i always thin its gunna switch to the closest so i start running the way he should run and of course its the other guy and i run away from the ball

i press dive and they just dive in random directions.. no where near the player

The only help we can offer is...stop pressing the dive button.

Run into the guy to tackle him, and only dive when you have too.

Try getting in front of the player and use the strafe button. Square up on the defender and bring him down. If you're chasing him, work on your diving.
