I don't think teams run enough play-action in real life but I agree that its not necessary to throw deep. Furthermore, you should never run it in obvious passing situations since the defense would and should not be fooled. Why run a play action on 3rd and 16 when the defense knows a handoff won't get you 16 yards? Its a rare occassion if someone ever watches a real game and they run play-action in an obvious passing situation. You are for more likely to see the opposite which is the draw play.

Exactly if you play on Heisman and try to run PA on 3rd and long, it turns into a Play Action Sack, because the frontline isn't even concerned with the run. It Bull rushes and deep rushes on pure passing downs.
