Well to be honest that doesn't sound like there shouldn't be impact players so much as it's, as you say, just overdone and not implemented in the way it was intended.

I also agree with the above assessment that it really should be based upon the true impact players and not just say "every team has to have a certain number of impact players". That really makes no sense.

Re: Offensive Linemen eligible to be an Impact Player?

Amen. the 3 per team rule is crap too. Let's just take a school here... um... Michigan. Now if OL can be impact players too, then Michigan has 4 options on offense... ALONE! Henne, Hart, Manningham, Long. On defense: Taylor, Adams and Crable are options. So that leaves Michigan a legit National Title contender with 7 Impact players!!! Let's take a smaller school like Marshall for instance... I could see making Doug Legursky (Rimington hopeful) on offense, and DE Albert McClellan on defense. With maybe the addition of TE Cody Slate and MLB Josh Johnson. Sooo you have Michigan with a minimum 7 impact players vs. a Marshall team with 2-4 impact players and you have the matchup you expect to have. A blowout by Michigan as that do essentially whatever they want to do. Adding all those impact players to powerhouse schools will make it more realistic because then you can shutdown the great running backs from bad schools more easily. It also makes it harder when you decide to take the big step up and schedule one of the powerhouse schools. Sooo... after having said that I'm going to spin this to another thread for debate.

Something more accurate would have been the Poinsettia Bowl. TCU owned Garrett Wolfe.
Great point and I agree with everything you said.

btw, u are right, they shouldn't just require 3 for all teams, it hurts the quality of the real impact players.
While posting that I thought to myself, "gee... I bet someone jumps on my ***". Fair enough though. I was just trying to search for an example. No harm.

Re: Offensive Linemen eligible to be an Impact Player?

I think Impact Players should be dynamic.

For example, nobody starts out a game as an impact player. But if a player starts busting off, say, 35 yards on 5 carries or 2 catches for 50 yards over a 2 minute span, he becomes "in the zone". This would be about a 5-8 point OVR increase lasting 2-3 plays. But then, don't stop it until the player gets stopped.

Essentially, incorporate it into the dynamic player rating system instead of the 3 player per team nonsense.

But I really hate how my player will get 'in the zone', bust off a 30 yard run, and then get out of the zone. WTF?

Or the opposite of that. I just sacked the QB twice on this drive after he had thrown 2 interceptions in the 1st quarter anyway. He's completed nothing but dump off passes and on 3rd and a mile, he's totally in the zone. Go figure.

Just make everyone with a rating of 90+ an impact player or get rid of the system.

Re: Offensive Linemen eligible to be an Impact Player?

i like the "impact player" thing being highlighted, but i don't like the ratings boost. makes no sense. I would like it better if it were like the old "Gamebreaker" games that sony made for college fball. certain players that were "gamebreakers" were lit up yellow while the other players were lit up white, but there were no ratings boosts given, it was just to show who is the premier players on the field. I think EA should adopt that as well.
