That's what everyone always said but I never was able to make it work on the PS2 and XBox versions in the past. I still wish it was a little more consistent of a move.

Here is one with a flip. I posted this in the EASports thread, and there are a bunch more like it. I have seen this goalline dive consistantly and have also been able to pull it off pretty consistantly.

No I wouldnt say trick, I just hit the dive button. I know I dont have the sprint button pushed down. I let go of sprint and hit dive. I wish I could help you more than that. Try to go to practice and do a bunch of goalline plays.

I've scored two or three TDs with this with my CL HB... but I've also managed to do the standard dive with the ball out front (I must have been too far from the end zone when I started it) and had the thing run back 100 yards for a TD.
