Let's not forget the Gamebreaker series, which was always inferior to EA's NCAA series back in the day. Just because someone else would produce a game doesn't necessarily mean that it would be any good. I guess I'm just playing devil's advocate here, but there's a better than good chance that NCAA would still be the cream of the crop even with competition.
Madden is a different story. 2k was able to build a solid game for dreamcast and xbox/ps2.
I guess gameday was actually decent at one point, but they never really improved that franchise.
