Pre-Season Recruiting

I'm sure this has happened before...but not for me. I won the National Championship as Texas A&M...my 2nd one in 5 years (but I don't count the first season NC because it usually takes me that long to get the sliders right). I had lost two season ago to USC but this time I killed Boise State 41-10.

Anyways during recruiting I had 2 guys commit to me before the season even started. A 5* center and a 4* FB. I only had enough points to talk to the first 14 guys on my list...if I would have known they could commit I would have skipped the pitch unlocked part and went straight to the scholarship offer for every guy.

What do you guys do for pre-season recruiting? Offer scholarships to everyone right away or work your way down the list?

Re: Pre-Season Recruiting

i normally offer if im #1 on thier list or on the week they visit, i only do this to the ones im really trying to get or the ones that are part of my needs. if your #1 on their list you got a random chance they will take it right then. especially if no one else has offered them one

I offer them scholarships when I first talk to them. What is considered the best method? Offer the week they visit?

Re: Pre-Season Recruiting

Well I'm in Week 8 now and haven't had any more commits even though everyone has been offered a scholarship...which is nothing new. If I wouldn't have got the 2 to sign before season I would try the week they visit method...but now I'm not sure.

On a side note I have a recruit from Texas named Ashley Simpson. He's a cover corner that has blazing speed. Doesn't mention anything about his party skills though.

I always offer the guys at the top of my board ASAP. No exceptions. I don't want another school to offer and drop on their interest list.

Re: Pre-Season Recruiting

Im using Clemson. Year 3. Coming off an undefeated National championship season.
Right now I have the number 1 recruiting class so far and its week 11.
I have 6 commits.
Two 5star. Two 4star. And Two 3star.

This is what I do and it works good for me.

Im not sure how often and how much time you want to spend with each player.
But I put the top 10 players that I need 1-10.
And then the top 5 players that I want 11-16.
And after that I rank them in accordance.
But I always talk to the 1-10 and spend a good amount of time. I hard pitch, find pitch, and sway a pitch each time.
I always talk to 11-16 but I dont spend alot of time. I only hard pitch and sway a pitch. Depending on the time I may do just one.
For 17-35, I get to them at a need base and bi weekly.
If I talk to 17-26 week 1. I make sure I talk to 26-35 week 2, no matter what.

I always schedule my recruits to come in the last two games of the year.
Right now I have them schedules for week 11 and week 12.
I TRY not to offer scholarships before their visit.
The only time I offer a scholarship before a visit, is if I am Number 1 on a propects list, or the prospect is slipping away from me.
Its working so far so good now.
