Formation Audibles

Was was messing with the audibles last night and I know that formation audibles is advertised as part of the title, but I can't seem to get the audibles to be formation specific. The default audibles will change my formation - if I'm in a, say I-Form run play, and hit X (360) and then audible to a pass, I may change formations to a Shotgun - obviously this defeats the purpose of a formation audible.

Now, I did do this rather late last night so maybe I missed something or am I just doing something wrong?

After you hit X to bring up the audibles, you use the right stick to select the formation audible. up is quick pass, down is run, left play action, and right is deep pass (I think that is all correct).
