NEW NCAA RULES IMPLEMENTED

http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/story/614456.html

• The ACC is moving its championship game from Jacksonville to Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, to be played at 1 p.m. Dec. 6 and televised by ABC. After two league-title games in Tampa, the game will move to Charlotte, N.C., for the 2010 and 2011 seasons. The least expensive tickets have been decreased from $60 to $25 in an effort to draw more fans.

Swofford said the league will know better after 2011 if it wants to have a permanent location for the game or continue rotating.

• The Congressional Bowl is the ACC's newest postseason game, this year scheduled for 11 a.m. Dec. 20 at Nationals Park in Washington. It will have the No. 9 ACC team go against the Naval Academy if they are bowl-eligible.

• New NCAA rules for 2008 include one that will expand the play clock from 25 seconds to 40 seconds, like the NFL.

''It gives a consistent pattern to the play clock,'' said Doug Rhoads, ACC coordinator of football officiating. ``In the past, we had to wait for each ref, and one may have done it a little quicker while another took longer. It was a factor sometimes in determining what play a team ran or how quickly they could get it in. The referee's pace being different from week to week may have altered styles of offense.''

Another new rule: If a coach's challenge to review a play is successful, he gets a freebie -- but only one extra per game. Otherwise, only one review is allowed.

I would hope EA would have given us unecessary roughness hitting out of bounds by now but yet it's not there !!!!!!

Damn, 9th ACC team against ****ing Navy? Seriously... it's almost like you can fall out of bed and into a bowl game now-a-days.

With the addition of these 2 bowls, there is a danger that one or more bowls are left out and thus must fold (at least for the sseason). Last year, there were 6 eligible teams that did not get bowl invites, if the W-L records of last year were brought in to this, then only 2 eligible teams would not have been selected.

The danger happens if the 9th team in the ACC does not have a winning record, then the bowl will have to search for an at-large competitor. However, if there are no more teams with a record of at least 6-6 (maybe 6-7 if a team loses its champ game) then that bowl may fold.

That's just absurd.
