Contain Does Not do a Good Job of Containment - Need Edge Rush

DE Contains do not really Contain

I call contain specifically because I'm facing this guy. You know the Pat White players. If I call a DE contain then he should do that. Well the issue I have here is that the person on offense can basically control my player. Now I know some people are gonna say, well you take control of him. And I say, sure, but then who's supposed to cover that spot in the middle of the field, the A.I? If that is your answer, then my response is, if I have to rely on the A.I to cover the middle, then why can't I also rely on the A.I to Contain? Look at what happens here. He basically, in a way, controls my defensive end, gets him SUCKED up inside so he can get outside and still completes the pass

It happened again in this next video.

The MLB is trailing the HB as he is in Man. The DE out in front of the HB is on a contain rush. Now watch what he does. He gets to a point outside and he just stops and then turns back inside and stands and gets sucked back inside. Now here goes the QB up the sideline for a gain. The DE's are nullified way to easily.

What this game needs is Edge Rushes, where the DE basically runs up the field and attempts to get around the outside shoulder of the Tackle. Revisiting the first video, look how the DE gets vacuumed up twice. Once by the Tackle and the other by the Guard.

Isn't it a known fact that the Oline/Dline needs some work and that it's going to be focused on for 2010.

Re: Contain Does Not do a Good Job of Containment - Need Edge Rush

Contain is another example of a "feature"/hot route that EA invented solely because they have such terrible AI on the LOS. There is no team in America that uses any sort of pass rush strategy that resembles anything close to what you see in "contain" plays. Containment is a basic part of every single defensive playcall in the world, unless it's some kind of junk/situational defense. It's not a special assignment, it's part of the edge rusher's basic responsibility. The fact that we have to specifically assign people to contain (and thus sacrifice them as pass rushers) is just stupid.

It might be, but I don't see how that hampers the discussion since EA was the one that put contain rushes in the game specifically to deal with the Vickness they created, yet it doesn't for several reasons: the oline and dline being the tip of the iceberg but not the complete picture.

Also, EA better spend more than 2010 on Oline vs Dline. VC spent 3 years on OL vs Dline and it still wasn't all complete. I hope people are not expecting 2010 to be a complete OL vs DL model for Madden/NCAA. OL vs DL is way to complex for 1 development cycle.

On 360 use LB and press the right analog stick UP....
This will do a "fan" blitz and should help you with people running outside a lil bit... that has helped me...

I don't know but D-Line play needs work now seeing how we're two weeks in and it's obvious. D-Line play in 08 was pretty good, just take out the DT's blowing up the OL on the inside all game long. It was way better than this quicksand DL we have now.

I feel like the Contain worked better in 08. It is broken now.
