New Patches?

I just rented this game and I'm wondering about the patches that they've put out for it. Sounds like theres been 2 of them. What exactly are they fixing?

Also in order to download these do you have to have an active xbl account. My account is currently inactice - I need to renew it. But I will have my ethernet cord connected so I will be connected and therefore the patch will automatically download when I load up the game? From what I remember even if my account is inactive the patches will still update, can anyone confirm this?
