Sorry - new to Next Gen - what is the "patch"?

I have read:

1 - this game had some problems
2 - EA has made a few "patches"
3 - the game is better now

But I bought a used version of NCAA09 (the guy at gamestop told me that EA is not making any more "fresh"copies of NCAA09 - used was my only choice).

How do I know if I am already "patched"?

Is there somewhere I can download the patch?

I currently have xbox live (silver) - will I need xbox live (gold) to make this work?

Any help? Thanks!

Silver is all you'll need. just make sure your 360 is connected to the internet and your signed into your silver account when you put the game in, it will ask it you want to download the update.

if you are in the game, and are still able to be logged into xbox live at the same time, then you have the update.

A patch is a medicated adhesive designed to help eliminate dependency to an addictive substance.

But seriously, in the world of PC and 7th gen home consoles, a patch is a bit of software downloaded to a harddrive that is a rewrite or update of code on the optical disc. It is not found on the original optical disc, but downloaded from the internet (usually, and exclusively for the 7th gen home consoles) or available via mail-in offer or for free on game shop counters on a secondary disc (still installed on the harddrive).
