Play Clock ... 25sec or 40sec?

What is the deal with the play clock?

It seems to show 40 seconds when a play ends.

The clock will count down while the game mills about.

It goes instantly to 25 seconds as soon as I click a button.

So - when I go to the play call screen - I lose about 10 seconds.

I have no more than 25 seconds to pick a play and do pre-play reads and adjustments.

Is this right?

I would really like to have those "extra" 10 seconds back ...

It's EA's way of going, "Oh, crap, they changed the playclock this year? It'll take too long to fix in this year's game!"

I guarantee you next year the dual clocks will be gone.

Dual clocks!! This is laughable. This is a mockery.

Utter confusion. Your telling me the play clock jumps to 25 after being at 40.

What versions? The 360 and PS3?

On the PS2 version of 09, I noticed the clock ran when you ran out of bounds, but it seemed like the play clock still was a 25 second clock.

The affect that these clock rules had on the game and on the video game NCAA 09 are unprecedented.

This monopoly that EA seems to have on the college football gaming market has limited their scope. How do you not put an option in there for the 25 second clock and clock stopping on out of bounds.

I love college football, but these changes and how poorly they are implemented in the game is laughable.

I'll keep playing OG Xbox NCAA 08.

Just beat Notre Dame 72-64 in South Bend with my Nittany Lions in a 60:00 game on heisman custom sliders.

This is how the clock now works in college football. The play clock starts at :40 as soon as the whistle blows the previous play over. Once the officials set the ball the clock moves to :25 seconds even if it was at :32 for example. So basically the game is saying once your team is in the huddle choosing the play, that the ball has been set. Hope this helps.

And besides, a 40 second clock online would be a loooong game. 5 minute games with the 25 sec clock take 45 minutes to an hour as it is. The whole reason for the change was to speed games up both in reality and in the virtual world

The clock does not stop on out of bounds plays anymore in real life outside of the final two minutes of each half.

True. Thats dumb imo though. But they want faster games and dang they're alot faster. My Saturday for local stations and sports center used to start at 9:30 and end at around 10. now it ends about 8

Doesn't the clock still stop for out of bounds plays in the video game?

I always liked the accelerated clock feature in Madden. You can set the game to 15 minute quarters and get a very realistic outcome as far as number of plays.

I tried a few ncaa games at 15 min qtr back in the day and it took forever. I scaled it down to 12, but now I'm down to 10 minutes. Still gets a fairly realistic style.
