I don't see why not. It's worth a shot. You could also try bridging your Computers internet connection to your Xbox. Just google "How to bridge an internet connection" and you should pull up about 50 guides on how to do it.

So there's no cable port (cat6) in the back of the modem? It's all wireless? If that's the case, then taking it to a friend's house might be your best option unless you want to buy a wireless card for the xbox.

This is my suggestion as well. Just will end up having you run out to somewhere like Staples or Best Buy to get a crossover cable. I played online like this for 3 years, so it works just fine.

How do you get internet then?
