Re: Top 25 teams

1. Florida
2. Oklahoma
3. Texas
4. USC
5. Alabama
6. Ohio State
13. Georgia
15. Cal
20. Florida State
25. Kansas

All from videos and screenshots... I was trying to figure this out yesterday. I could be missing something with 2-6 though.. Ben H. was in the season showdown mode when I saw those rankings.

Re: Top 25 teams

The rankings are from last year I believe. The EA team doesn't work on those or rosters until late in the process. Really really late. Like the last thing they do.

Also, the rankings are most likely not even official yet.

Re: Top 25 teams

Alabama was 5 at the end of this year I thin...

it was like Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, IDK, Bama, USC, Penn State, Ohio State, etc.

Re: Top 25 teams

a couple of pre-season early looks. should be close to the truth for the preseason rankings and gives an idea of who is thought to be good in 2009. Most teams have a similar ranking, in all these polls, give or take 2-3 spots in the ranking. i posted the link but included the polls so we could all see what somebody was talking about if they had comments.

rivals preseason poll
http://collegefootball.rivals.com/co...asp?CID=898567

1. Florida
The Buzz: The potential exists for all 11 defensive starters – and each of their backups – to be back in 2009. And with QB Tim Tebow returning, the Gators will be prohibitive favorites to repeat.

2. Texas
The Buzz: QB Colt McCoy's decision to return means the offense again will put up a ton of points – and the running game should be better in 2009. The secondary could be a strength, but the front seven needs some tweaking.

3. USC
The Buzz: The defense will undergo an overhaul, from the coordinator down to the players. But the offense could be truly explosive.

4. Oklahoma
The Buzz: If quarterback Sam Bradford, TE Jermaine Gresham and DT Gerald McCoy go pro, this ranking will drop. If all three return, OU will battle for the Big 12 – and maybe national – title.

5. LSU
The Buzz: QB Jordan Jefferson's performance in the Chick-fil-A Bowl provides hope that the offense will be more consistent. The linebacking corps needs to be rebuilt.

6. Ohio State
The Buzz: You have to figure the coaches will unleash quarterback Terrelle Pryor, which will jazz up the offense. The defense will be fine even without CB Malcolm Jenkins and LB James Laurinaitis.

7. Virginia Tech
The Buzz: The Hokies look as if they will be the class of the ACC. The defense always will be good, and if QB Tyrod Taylor becomes a better passer, the offense actually could be dangerous.

8. Alabama
The Buzz: The offensive line could have some questions and there will be a new quarterback, but depth should be better and there are some talented skill-position players on hand.

9. Boise State
The Buzz: QB Kellen Moore can become a star. If the Broncos can get their front four on defense settled, an undefeated season is within their grasp.

10. Oklahoma State
The Buzz: The Cowboys should have a deadly offensive trio in QB Zac Robinson, TB Kendall Hunter and WR Dez Bryant. The defense, though, has some work to do.

11. Georgia Tech
The Buzz: The Yellow Jackets were surprisingly good in coach Paul Johnson's first season, and Year Two in the triple-option offense could lead to big numbers. The defense should be fine.

12. California
The Buzz: Jahvid Best may go into the 2009 season as the nation's best running back. Coach Jeff Tedford needs to settle on a quarterback and the linebacking corps must be rebuilt.

13. Penn State
The Buzz: QB Daryll Clark and TB Evan Royster return, though there are questions about the offensive line, the receiving corps and the secondary. The front seven on defense could be outstanding.

14. Ole Miss
The Buzz: Coach Houston Nutt changed the culture around the program, and if Tim Tebow goes pro, Jevan Snead will be the best quarterback in the SEC. There is a lot of skill-position talent around him, too.

15. Oregon
The Buzz: The Ducks will need to settle on a quarterback and do some tweaking in the secondary. But the rushing attack again should be the team strength.

16. Florida State
The Buzz: The defense has a lot of potential, if the coaches can find some safeties. The offensive line actually could be a strength. But the passing attack must improve.

17. Utah
The Buzz: The passing game will be a huge question. But the defense returns a lot of key players in the front seven, and the Utes will be able to run the ball.

18. Georgia
The Buzz: Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno are gone. But it's not as if the Bulldogs' roster is bereft of talent. The offensive line should be much better, as should the defense.

19. Kansas
The Buzz: On paper, at least, the Jayhawks look to be the class of the Big 12 North. The return of QB Todd Reesing means the offense should be one of the most productive in the nation. But the defense must replace three starting linebackers.

20. Texas Tech
The Buzz: No Graham Harrell. No Michael Crabtree. A rebuilt offensive line. A tougher schedule. And the same old defense.

21.Iowa
The Buzz: Yes, star running back Shonn Greene is gone, but the defense again should be tough. The offensive line should be stout and there still are some good backs on campus.

22. BYU
The Buzz: Replacing four starters on the offensive line is the top priority for the Cougars, whose defense should be much better.

23. Notre Dame
The Buzz: Hey, calm down there, all you Irish haters. Notre Dame has talent, the schedule is navigable and a staff shakeup should help on the field.

24. USF
The Buzz: One of these seasons, USF will start fast and finish strong. Next season will be the final go-round for quarterback Matt Grothe, who must cut down on his mistakes.

25. Oregon State
The Buzz: The Rodgers brothers mean the offense should be fine, and coordinator Mark Banker always seems to find answers on his defense.
Others that received consideration (in alphabetical order): Air Force, Colorado, Houston, Michigan State, Nebraska, North Carolina, Northwestern and Texas Christian

cbs sports preseason poll;
http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/story/11268404

1. Florida: No Harvin? No problem. More Rainey. More Demps. Oh, and that Tebow guy is pretty good, too. The Gators are locked and loaded to make it three in four years. Issue: National championship hangover.
2. Oklahoma: OU won't average 54 again, will it? The entire backfield is back. The defense will be older and wiser. Special teams have to get better, but Bob Stoops has the entire offseason season to work on them. Issues: DeMarco Murray's health. Bob in big games.
3. Texas: Heisman finalist Colt McCoy returns with perhaps even a better set of receivers. Quan Cosby is gone but watch Malcolm Williams and Dan Buckner. Issues: Beating Oklahoma and, uh, hoping for the best.
4. Alabama: The offensive line has to be rebuilt. The other side of the ball is juuust fine. What is it they say about defense and championships? Issue: 'Bama arrived a year early under Saban. So what do you do after 12-2?
5. Virginia Tech: Settled at quarterback and tailback. Defense is a given at Virginia Tech. Finally some love for the ACC. The Hokies should rule again, winning at least 10. Issue: Unless they go ACC on us and win eight.
6. Oregon: By the time you read this, coach-in-waiting Chip Kelly might not be waiting anymore. Even if Mike Bellotti decides to stay on, have you seen the schedule? The Ducks might end USC's death grip on the Pac-10. Issue: Transition from Bellotti to Kelly. But so far things are going smoothly.
Terrelle Pryor should take large steps forward in 2009. (Getty Images)
7. Ohio State: Based on Buckeyes OC Jim Bollman's track record, Terrelle Pryor should take a giant step in '09. Even if he doesn't, the defense has enough to win the Big Ten. Issue: Boom (Herron) replaces Beanie (Wells).
8. USC: Carroll is pissed and he doesn't care who knows it. The departure of Sanchez (the coach thinks, unwisely) sets up one of the best spring quarterback battles in the country. Issue: Even without Sanchez, the offense is loaded -- and it will have to be. Only two starters are back on defense.
9. Oklahoma State: Another powerful offense and Texas comes to Stillwater. What more could you want? Maybe a win in Norman for the Pokes this year. Being a top-10 team but third in the Big 12 South is tough. Issue: This could be the best Cowboys' offense since ****s, Sanders and Gundy in '88. The problem is a defense that has to make just a few stops.
10. Georgia Tech: Paul Johnson threw together a nine-win season using some old costumes and his uncle's barn (see every Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland movie). Now he has his pieces in place. The ACC, and the country, should be concerned. Issue: Forgetting just what the heck happened against LSU.
11. LSU: Everybody is allowed a down year, right? Les Miles is retooling, quickly. Jordan Jefferson looks like he is ready to take over at quarterback. The D-coordinators are gone and the defense can't be that inconsistent again, can it? Issue: Where does mega-recruit Russell Shepard, fit in?
12. Penn State: The karma is good, if nothing else. Penn State comes off a Rose Bowl appearance. JoePa is wrapped up with a new contract. A lot of teams would take their chances with Evan Royster and Stephfon Green. Issue: The offensive line has to be rebuilt. That's a big deal in the Big Ten.
Snead will have plenty of returning targets to throw to. (Getty Images)
13. Ole Miss: Perhaps only Florida felt better about itself after the bowl game. There's nothing wrong with Jevan Snead being the second-best quarterback in the SEC. Five of the top six pass catchers return. Greg Hardy's return at defensive end was huge. Issues: Few unless Mississippi State suddenly gets going.
14. Kansas: Any team with quarterback Todd Reesing is capable of anything. That includes winning the Big 12 North, which the Jayhawks should be favored to do in '09. Even with the linebacking unit having to be replaced, KU could be better defensively. Issue: A better running game would be nice to keep Reesing from getting beaten to a pulp.
15. Utah: Navigating the Mountain West schedule has been akin to jumping into a bag of knives. For the second consecutive year, three teams should be ranked. Most of the skill players are gone, but Kyle Whittingham will do it like he always does -- with defense. Issue: The early departure of impact defensive lineman Paul Kruger was huge.
16. Nebraska: Slowly, surely the Huskers are getting their swagger back. The difference in the Big 12 North is the Kansas game being in Lawrence. Issues: Spelling lessons when writing about receiver Curenski Gilleylen and nose tackle Ndamukong Suh.
Ten to Watch
Arizona
Auburn
Baylor
Boston College
Cincinnati
Houston
Miami
Pittsburgh
Texas Tech
Tulsa

17. Cal: Former quarterbacks guru Jeff Tedford is now churning out NFL tailbacks. The latest is Jahvid Best, a Heisman favorite in '09. Issue: USC at Berkeley on Oct. 3. Are the Bears ready to supplant the Trojans in the Pac-10?
18. Oregon State: The Rodgers boys (Jacquizz and James) should be able to lead the Beavers to eight wins. At least. Issue: Getting over that mind-boggling beatdown by Oregon.
19. TCU: If talented defensive end Jerry Hughes (15 sacks) could play running back, he would. He came to TCU as one. Issue: Replacing most of the skill players.
20. Georgia: The 2008 preseason No. 1 has some 'splainin' to do. Can Joe Cox replace Matthew Stafford? Will Caleb King make up for the loss of Knowshon Moreno? Can the offensive line improve? Issue: It's the SEC East, dude, and Florida is No. 1. We'll see.
21. Boise State: We'll know early if the Broncos are BCS busters. They open at home with Oregon and play at Tulsa in October. Issue: A young front seven.
22. Florida State: Don't get fooled by the bowl game. There is still a ways to go for FSU to get back to being FSU. Issue: The non-conference schedule. Who put this together? At BYU and Florida, plus a homer against South Florida?
23. North Carolina: The offense took some hits with the loss of Hakeem Nicks and Cameron Sexton, but Butch Davis is doing it the right way. With defense. Carolina led I-A in interceptions. Issue: How to deal with roadies at Boston College, Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech.
24. BYU: This finesse offense has to get tougher before it can challenge TCU and Utah for the conference title. If not, the Cougars will be third in the Mountain West and barely in the top 25. Issue: Watch 1,000-yard-receiving tight end Dennis Pitta take over after the early departure of Austin Collie.
25. Notre Dame: The schedule, the schedule, the schedule. Charlie Weis should be able to squeeze eight wins out of it. That and good vibes left over from the Hawaii Bowl. Issue: The problem is, if Weis doesn't win at least nine and get ND to a BCS bowl he might be gone
