The issue with the DE Contain play is that by default it loops the DE's way outside and this causes the OT's to do one of two things: either completely ignore the DE and go second level or chase after the DE. When they chase after the DE, the DE simply whirls around them and comes free...which is why it is so hard to run on it.

What I found is that you pretty much have to have at least one TE in, preferably two. What happens is that the DE doesn't end up so far outside of the TE that he can't make a block on him.

One run play the really works well against it is HB Toss Strong out of Ace forms. The play side guard (and sometimes tackle) pull to lead block. If you have a TE on that side, he will engage the DE and the G/T will seal off the edge. A good 5 yards per carry on that. Enough to get your opponent out of running the DE contain every play.
