Ok..can someone please explain how "Recruit Against" works

I'm confused about how this actually works and it cost me some hardwork in persuading a top notch recruit from coming to UofL because I apparently upset him recruiting against Notre Dame.

Can someone, please explain in detail how this works? How does Hard Sell and Downplay work in the recruiting against a school?

Honestly, it's a waste of recruiting time. You want to see negative numbers, and if their rating is B or higher, it won't help you. B- may or may not, I am not sure. You will want to see the bar fill with red. But it makes recruits mad sometimes and just doesn't seem to have any effect.

I only ever recruit against if say I only want to spend 30 minutes on a call and I have 4 min left. Then I'll go over to recruit against. I think the amount of positive you get from recruiting for your team beats the amount of negative for the other teams by far.

I think I'm just going to only recruit for and leave that recruiting against stuff alone. It causing me more headaches's than it is success.
